Lets not worry too much about roster fit when drafting #2. By the time Green or Mobley hit their peak wood will be on the wrong side of 30. and by the time we've surround green or mobley with a championship roster wood will be even older than that! Its not a guarantee wood is on the team after this contract. He will want significant money on his next deal. Should we tie up long term money on him when we will have to be able to afford KPJ, Green, and likely high lotto picks in 2022, and 2023? if we're lucky 3 of those guys will be worth the max. on average 2 of them will. wood is a nice piece but you have to save your money for your young stars otherwise you end up trading James harden because you locked into ibaka and Perkins! its not even a guarantee wood wants to resign here. if he can make the same money on a winning team he'd leave. he might even take less to join a contender. do you wait to trade him last minute and get nothing in return like oladipo? or do you trade him a year early and get something for him? I'd look to trade him this season. If I can get a lotto pick this year or next for wood I do it with no regrets.
We have a better version of Mobley already on the roster(Christian Wood)! Would be a wasted draft pick!
I concur. I like to watch both those players because they are quick, smart, skilled and make plays. And are crafty. I think Green has that ability. Mobley not so much.
Keep looking You will see it He is a hybrid of KG & AD with a little Ralph Sampson sprinkled on top for extra flavor 7footers like him come through about once a decade Big frame with Guard skills His elite DEF intuition is what reminds me of KG & AD at this stage more than anything So rare He doesn't have to get any better than he is already to be a great NBA defender
One of the things I've seen thrown around is that Mobley doesn't have passion for the game, KG's defining trait was passion for the game. That is what made KG KG and not just another talented big.
This guy said Ben Simmons lol. I didn't know he was still coveted after his embarrassing post season performance
theyre at 3 “stuck” choosing between Mobley and Suggs. They don’t “really” need a defensive big (isn’t that what Allen does?) or another “small” guard (they have Sexton and Garland). CWood put up 21/10 with 37.5% three point shooting and while not a defensive stalwart has his moments with his length. they get out from under Love’s contract. They are taking on Gordon’s contract though… but it’s $10 million less per year. You’d like to say at least Gordon isnt injured all the time but I guess that’s a stretch after last year but alive barely plays and gets $30 per. maybe Cleveland is ready to try and win a little at least. If they keep up just picking high picks that take 3-5 years to develop the ones they picked 3-5 years ago will be ready to bolt (see what’s happened over the years to other such teams). At some point you have to try to win. If Gordon is healthy and with Wood it’s a step in the right direction. Mobley could be the next HOF big… but his first year isn’t going to be that. Even AD who was an unquestionably better prospect ad a solid rookie war but “just” at 13/8. that’s my rationale.
One thing I feel fairly certain about Mobley. He’s not going to come in day one and kill it. That’s ok. But he’s a lesser prospect than AD and AD had a solid rookie year at 13/8. it’s going to take for him to catch up to he NBAs speed and size. Which sounds weird to say for someone so tall… but he’s skinny and even with that height in high school especially but college also he’s not always seeing equivalent size with skill. it shouldn’t be Yao bad to start but I can see it starting a bit rocky. not that that’s a problem.
They are not similar really. Wood is better offensively as he should be with his experience... Mobley will be a better defender than Wood on day 1...and you know, this is me more insulting Wood's defense than anything else.
Renacting the 80's twin towers in a guard dominant era wont work. PLEASE DO NOT DRAFT MOBLEY. Nothing against the kid, but we need a shotmaker/scorer thatll turn this organization back into a hot destnation for free agents. Atlanta basically turned things around and we can do the same
You don't spend the #2 pick on a rim protector...you can find those players lower in the draft! The plan should be to draft Jalen Green....then try to trade up to the 11th pick and draft this guy! Kai Jones. Jalen Green #2 Kai Jones #11
I hope we can trade the number 2 to Cleveland and acquire Green plus their 2022 unprotected 1st round pick. Give them Mobley or Suggs. Mobley won't make Toronto a world beater. Don't worry about that. @ApacheWarrior @D-rock
His helpside defense looks to be pretty good but man on man defense is where I see a glaring hole because of his frame. Can he feel out and get stronger in 3-4 years? Perhaps, but with Duncan, KG, AD they were special on BOTH SIDES of the ball. I actually followed Duncan's college career at Wake Forest, I knew he was going to be that guy way before he ever got drafted by the Spurs. I saw KG play in High School, he looked like a grown man playing against boys he was that special. I even followed AD coming out of Kentucky. The way AD could put the ball on the floor and could create not only for himself but for others with that size and quickness I knew he was a once in a lifetime talent. And of course all of these guys were studs on the defensive end too. I don't even think Mobley is on the same level as Duncan, AD, KG were at his age defensively, and let's not even mention his offensive abilities, forget about it. Jalen Green is going to average 20+ points a game for multiple years and at worst is going to be a fringe all-star level player. If Green plays to half of his potential he's going to be a multiple time all-star. If the Pistons take Green then draft Cade, if Detroit takes Cunningham then draft JG it's really that simple to me.
One more thing I'd like to mention to you. If you win 17 games and have your worse season ever you need players that can put the round thing in the brown thing. Defense is important yes but at the end of the day the game revolves around players that can get buckets. Sometimes the best defense is a great offense. Now is not the time to try and be cute if you're the Rockets and take the project big man when you already have another soft big man on your roster named Christian Wood. Take the sure things in either Cunningham or Green.
Can't the Rockets scouting staff find a young guy like Nene instead of signing him when he's already a broken down 35 year veteran? Imagine if we had Nene during his Denver years?
Watch the actual games, Rockets struggled defensively much more than they did offensively. Rockets could stop no one, especially in the clutch.
We were not trying to win. Defensive specialists are much cheaper than 25+ PPG guys. I have serious doubts that Mobley will ever reach 22+ let alone 25+. I‘d rather take the guy with the offensive talent to be the best scorer in the league.
