Nah its because people who are bitter and ignorant dont understand basketball. Its always the dudes who dont understand ball.
He's made the most trades in NBA history and 0 rings to show for it. Facts > feelings. His whole number crunching philosophy towards basketball is flawed and can be easily exploited in the playoffs (as we have seen over and over again with nearly a decade of evidence)
But he simply inherited Simmons, and perhaps a still flawed roster in his mind. He's certainly above avg, but he is too stubborn about separating himself from convention, hence is prone to dismiss the obvious sometimes. There was a period when he appeared to blindly chase after stars even if they don't fit. He's not the best talent evaluator and at judgment on team fit. In other news, I wonder why no one seems to carry the torch from Jerry West and represents his school of thought as a protege. His insight had yielded results, and he's always among the quickest to adapt to the new game.
The Rockets never had the right personnel to make '3s and layups only' work. And at least the Rockets had Harden. Morey definitely isn't going to make that philosophy work with a big who should be dominating the paint instead of taking jumpers, and a 6'10'' Westbrook who doesn't have a single ounce of offense in him.
Really? Did you see that whole numbers crunching philosophy with Philly? He's maximizing his roster just like he did with Houston. I really hate the RANGZ argument, its really just nonsense for people who want to avoid an actual discussion about something.
His biggest mistake was catering to Harden and making him the franchise cornerstone. He ain't that. Then comes the list of philosophical issues towards basketball. I've always said Morey will do enough to excel in regular season but its a treadmill of mediocrity when it comes to the playoffs. The post season is a whole different ball game
How else do you measure success in the professional level? The expectations are high because he's been a GM since the mid 2000s! He's been around A LONG TIME. He has acquired a wealth of wisdom and experience being a GM and still continues to put together rosters that flame out and underperform. Its a given
Wins. How many times you make the playoffs. How well your team performs relative to their talent. What your owner is allowing you to do and not do. This is his first year as a Philly gm and he still has way more time to improve. You really just dont do context huh.
It's always everyone else's fault except Morey. Always. Ok he inherited Simmons but he also whiffed on trading for Lowry. How useful would that have been? Wasn't the expectation for Philly this year was to win a title with an MVP candidate Embiid? Let's face it, Philly didn't perform up to par this year. Morey, Doc, Simmons are equally to blame. Very flawed in their respective roles
He’s definitely overrated but a GM’s mark is measured a couple of years. Hard to make any realized changes one season in
He didn't. Morey came on board after the hire. If I were him I'd convince ownership to let him fire him and get Rick Carlisle on board.
