There were reports that some voters didn't even consider him because of how he forced his way off of the Rockets. I think it is also a combination of the injury time missed and the number of great guards in the league.
Yeah. DPOY doesn't mean you can defend anyone or do anything. I has come to mean most overall impact, which mean people are trusting to judged on analytics.
I did not watch most of the game, but from highlights of the third quarter, Gobert could have done a much better job getting to the shooters. I mean, on some of the attempts it looked like he was giving them open shots on purpose. At the same time, many times his teammates did not rotate over and he does not have the practice/muscle memory to rotate like that. Either way, he didn't need to be on the floor since his defense and rebounding are where he makes his impact and he wasn't making an impact in either.
james harden used to cook this guy on the perimeter for years, i been knew he was overrated. Meanwhile real defensive studs like pj tucker cant even get a single all defensive vote
He was definitely giving up the open 3 point shot and not really challenging at all. It was like watching the Bucks circa 2018. But he really doesn't have the athleticism to cover that much ground regularly. That is why guys like Anthony Davis and Draymond Green are such unicorns on defense.
