About 2 years ago, someone online made for me a dreamcast game (he burnt it onto a regular cd) and sent it to me. I played it alot and its gotten so scratched up, my system wont play it anymore. Can I put it in my PC, and copy all the data onto a cd? Is that all there is to it? Or do I have to have a special cd, special burning program, ect. ect. ect? Anyone know?

Why would your PC be able to read the data if your DC can't?

Dreamcast backups can easily be copied with softer like DiscJuggler or Nero.

your pc wouldnt be able to read the dreamcast game anyway. Dreamcast tried to beat the system of copying games by changing the type of media the games are on rather than relying on the hardware to stop burnt games. Playstation games were a simple direct cd burn and play if you had a mod chip installed in your playstation.

Dreamcast games were on what was known as a GDRom, it basically held a gigabyte of data. In essence then what the dreamcast was a GD drive that could read the data. Place a dreamcast game in any pc cd/dvd drive and it would read the dummy files purposely left on the gdrom but none of the actual game data. Finally someone cracked this by interfacing the dreamcast through the serial port of their pc and sending the data of the game from the dreamcast to the pc and from there was able to recreat the game.(It was impossible to get a gdrom or gdrom burner any other way since Sega owned the rights and patents to this technology and rumor was they owned all gdrom burners in existence and were under the highest security) Since the dummy files on the gdrom took up space as well most dreamcast games were in fact 650-700mb in size so they fit fine on a standard cdr. (For those who have an original dreamcast game look at the bottom you see a lighter colored area in the middle of the game, those are the dummy files meant to be read by a pc drive) From there it was simple since dreamcast used windows ce all that was needed was to create a small program to boot the game up, and viola a perfect copy. no mod chip or anything.

The only problem was that it wasnt an easy process most people got their illegal copies via the internet kazzaa or irc and used discjuggler to burn the game. If it is a game that you do originally own then i actually recommend just buying the game again, since sega phased out the dreamcast the games and the system itself are very very cheap or if you know how you can try to download it again.

    Hope that helps

It's not a Dreamcast game. It's a COPIED dreamcast game on a normal CDr. I put it into my PC and nothing comes up. Actually it makes the PC run slow with it in the drive. Shouldn't I be able to see any of the data files on my copied dreamcast game on my PC?

you said it yourself the cd is scratched up, the pc cant read if the main sectors are of the cds are damaged, its for any cd, not because your cd happens to be a burnt dc game

like i said you may just be better off just buying the game I've seen plenty of great dc games now selling for under 10 bucks at stores

Yeah no kidding, it is a DC game and those things are cheap as hell now.

Now, if you were asking about PS2 games, I can help you there.

I believe with xbox and ps2 since the games are dvds all you would need is a mod chip and a dvd burner to copy the games. My friends do have some games that they call cdrips of xbox and ps2 where they took out all the unneccesary video and movies out of a game to make it fit onto a normal cdr, but those suck I tried playing one of the football games that way and it was lame.

For xbox you may not even need a mod chip there is some weird trick you can do to flash the bios and load a linux system on the hard drive with a james bond game i am not sure how to do it myself I dont have an xbox i stopped buying systems after I bought my genesis years ago. I did get my dreamcast for free in a raffle (last time i had good luck in my life)

I can ask my friends they are all into this whole get games for free or next to nothing business but for the most part I believe u can download everything now at places, I am just not sure where other than kazaa or irc

I recomend buying DVD X COPY (software) to make copies of games to burn. Also, you will need a modchip.

    http://www.modchip.com/

http://www.suprnova.org/ Has links to torrent downloads of just about anything you can think of. (movies, games, pics, programs, etc. )

Hope I didn't cross the line mods. Sorry if I did and please delete this post.
