When 90% of people on death row are black, something is obviously wrong. I don't oppose the principle of the death sentence. I oppose putting innocent people to death...and I also oppose when deserving people avoid it because they have a good lawyer. If you can't administer the death penalty properly, then you shouldn't do it all. Anyway, I think very few people would view a parent that kills their child's/spouse's murderer in the same light as a common murderer. Is it justifiable? I don't think society holds that person to the same standards.
Where? Federal prison only? Combined with the states? Alls I know is Texas: 41% black, 31% white, 27% Hispanic, 1% Other The death penalty, especially on the state level, sucks.
kros: interesting Federal Death Penalty statistical breakdowns here: http://www.usdoj.gov/dag/pubdoc/_dp_survey_final.pdf Seems like around '95, there was a serious change in the demographics.
The only countries in the world that still utilizes the death penalty: China, Cuba, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Iraq (as of last year). Aren't they all our enemies (except Saudi Arabia, where the 9/11 terrorists came from) partly because of their attrocious record on human rights? We should be proud to keep company with this bunch.
Interesting. I'll go through it a little more when I have time. But the pre-95 numbers are obviously really bad if your black. Even the 2000 #'s still only have whites account for 20% of the innmates...that still doesn't look right to me without knowing more about it.
They are all considered homicide. The "justifiable" is what makes "justifiable homicide" different. Not the "homicide". Homicide is the killing of another, no matter the circumstances. The death penalty is homicide. Murder is homicide. Manslaughter is homicide. Justifiable homicide is homicide.
You seem to think I don't know what "homicide" means. I just want to know why so many different terms are thrown around in the legal system.
You keep posting things that make it appear you don't know what it means. You ask why there's manslaughter if there's homicide. And then you say they should all be considered "homicide", which they are. The definition of murder is unlawful homicide, usually with premeditation (or something close to that). Manslaughter is defined as unlawful homicide without premediation, etc. There are different terms thrown around the legal system because they mean different things, carry different punishments, etc. But they all are known as homicide, whether it includes it in the "title" or not.
oh lighten up, MaBeth...you're so serious all the time. don't you know it's funny when people get shot and killed? you should hear the humdingers he tells about the holocaust!! they're a real hoot!!!
Yeah...wonderful, ain't it? God. Well, I suppose in his mind it's fair game because they were protesting. I mean, we're the Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave, but to many that means You're Free to Agree, Or You'd Better Be Brave.
