Should Christian Wood be almost untouchable... or what?

  1. No, he's too fragile

  2. No, he doesn't fit our timeline

  3. He SHOULD NOT be traded.

  4. Yes, someone would have to bowl us over with an offer

on the fence on this one leaning toward trading but it would have to be for a better player and the only player i would pick would be KAT and that would be the only person. I would still need 1 st for him if not mid 11 something mid lottery for him

trading him between this summer and next deadline is probably the best option. the year after, he'll be on an ending contract so the rockets won't have any leverage. resigning him might mean overpaying or losing him for nothing. best is to get something for him next year while we have leverage.

target the raptors #7 pick. its a reach but maybe they're trying to win again next year. they probably don't go for it. Maybe #9 from the kings? Probably can get #11 from the hornets as a fallback.

I'd love to start next year with building around KPJ, a top 4 pick, and another lotto pick.

Anyone willing to trade him for less than the Minnesota pick is an idiot. There I said it. There is no college player outside of top 4 that will be better than Wood in two years. 20-10-2 does not grow on trees.

I find so many stupid comments about our player Wood.
Especially when Wood is our best player and an up and coming
    performer/.Yetti

I read somewhere that we could get Myles Turner for the 23 rd pick. Paired next to Woods I think would be a great combo due to Turner being more beefier. Thus, we could select the best perimeter player available.
    Turner
    Woods
Cade or Green who ever is available
    Porter
    Wall
Not a bad starting line up…

    We'll see.

KPjr would be a top 5 pick in this draft.....easy.

but it was a shortened season; playing a full 82 and the # of Ws mighta soared. 17? 18?

I mean, sure, you'd trade him for the right offer.

However, in any team building scenario you have to start somewhere. Right now the building blocks for the future are Porter, Tate and Wood. If you give any of those 3 up one should be expecting pretty significant return. Lateral moves at this point absolutely stunt any growth, negate potential and extend the rebuild time. Those are 3 guys almost everyone expects to continue getting better. Why trade them? And who is offering those significant upgrades for these 3 players? Seems kinda short-sighted to long for trades that are unlikely at best. Not to mention, the league's star players right now are aging and the next wave will break soon enough. All we need is just a little patience.

At the moment, the priority should be scouting (aka praying for Cade), finding a buyer for Wall and Gordon if possible and maintaining some level of continuity to build. We are not close and desperately seeking trades for marginal improvements has a foul odor.

You can't do that kind of deal until we know who is available to pick. If we do it and Cade and Green are off the board, do we really pass on Mobley for Suggs or Kuminga b/c we have Turner? Absolutely not. Now Turner is unhappy off the bench or we start off with an unhappy Mobley bringing him up slowly off the bench on a 16 win team. He'd demand a trade lol.

    Christian Wood <6 ft DF% and 3Pt DF% for the 20/21 season:
    <6 ft DFG%: 56.4%
    3Pt DFG%: 40.3%

*Concentrating on the 2 main zones.

Some of the best and worse for Rockets to give some perspective.
    Good 3Pt DFG%.........................Bad 3Pt DFG%.........
    Eric Gordon 29.8%...........................Porter 47.9%.........
    Wall 32.9%.......................................A Brooks 47.8%.....
    Khyri Thomas 34.8% (5 gms).........Nwaba 45.5%........
    Cousins 31.3%.................................Olynyk 41.5%........

    Good <6 ft DFG%..........................Bad <6 ft DFG%.....
    Khyri Thomas 47.6%..(5 gms).........Augustin 73.3%....
    Kenyon Martin Jr 51.9%...................Bradley 71.9%......
    Nwaba 53.0%....................................Porter 68.0%........
    Wood 56.4%...................................Eric Gordon 69.8%...

Wood was good near the rim and not as bad as others on the perimeter.

Let's break down Wood <6 feet by month:
    Jan (11 gms): 51.1%.................( Cousins 14 gms, Nwaba 15 gms )
    Feb (3 gms): 55.6%....(Cousins 10 gms, Spalding 2 Patton 4, Nwaba 11)
    March (7 gms): 56.4%.........( Patton 7 games )
    April (15 gms): 61.6%
    May (2 gms): 71.4%

What I noticed about Wood <6 ft DFG% after the loss of
    Cousins/Nwaba/Spalding, (Patton played until 3/17),
% went up but was still good in March.

But if you break it down further; March was a weak schedule
    that Wood played in:
    Date........team......Wood (pts/rebs) vs oppos big...Rockets (+/-) rebs.
    Mar 17: vs GSW....(Wood 21/9) x (Looney 7 /6).........................even...
    Mar 19: vs Detroit (Wood 18/11) x (Mason Plumlee 6/16)......... -11...
    Mar 21: vs OKC (Wood 27/8) x (Moses Brown 13/14 rebs)........ -14...
    Mar 22: vs Tor (Wood 19/4) x (Siakim 21 pts/10 rebs)................ +3...
    Mar 24: vs Hornets (Wood 11/10) x (Biyambo)............................ -11...
    Mar 26: vs T-Wolves (Wood 24/9) x (KAT 29 pts/ 16 rebs).......... -3.....
    Mar 31: vs Nets (Wood 14/8) x (Jordan 1/2, Blake 11/6)............ -14...
    _______________________________________

Timing is an issue in terms of contract. Wood will seek Max money
soon, so a decision needs to be made by the end of this upcoming season
on whether to trade or try to convince to stay.

Like Cousins, I believe Wood was recruited by Harden and is probably not
happy that Harden pushed his way out. Would a Cade/Jalen Green entice
him to stay? I feel he needs greater help physically in the front court. A guy
like Gafford or Bassey in the starting lineup would help.

I personally am thinking of the need for K Porter; as much as I love the
Porter offense I worry if defense is just an afterthought. The <6 ft DFG%
of 68.0% and 3Pt DFG% of 47.9% is a concern. Is it tank mode or
Harden-like conservation of energy towards mostly offense? Not sure.

If the Rockets draft either Cade or Green......Porter trade might or should
be explored. Mainly because Wall and Eric Gordon are probably not
going anywhere this season. As Philly found out when they had
    Embiid/Saric/ Rachaun Holmes/Nerlens Noel/Okafor/Bolden with Amir Johnson.
When you have so many of the same, none progress. When you have
3 or 4 quarterbacks then you really have none.

If Wood was 21 and playing like this I would say untouchable, but he will be 26 at the start of next season. I wanted to trade him as soon as I saw how well he was playing this year, they really should sell high on him.

Hopefully he can develop into something. Right now he needs to prove he can handle the off the court stuff.

The fan base won’t like it but this is probably best decision from a rebuilding standpoint. Do we want to be a decent team or do we want a chance to win it all?
