He's one of those odd players that's good but everyone knows he'd be best fit as a 3rd or 4th option on a contending team. At best, i like his fit on a team like Phoenix who already had lottery future stars drafted in Booker and Ayton and then bring in vets to round out the roster. I say he doesn't fit our timeline. Were 3 years too early at minimum imo.

There are rarely untouchable players on 16 win teams

A year from today, he will be an expiring contract on the worst team in the league, who will be itching for a max contract.

He needs to be traded this offseason or at worst, the deadline.

Anything else is a horrible mismanagement of assets.

Right only players untouchable for Rockets last few decades were Hakeem pre 35, yao pre injury, McGrady pre injury, harden pre selling out

    Good to very good player.

Good to very good players on lottery teams are touchable.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he is dealt for a lottery pick in the 7-12 range this year if the Rockets really like someone in that range.

No one should be untouchable during this rebuild! I would definitely trade Wood and picks for KAT or Sabonis if made available and maybe Wiseman

    YOU CAN NOT TRADE WOOD!

Wood is a rising star; length, shoots the 3, nice touch around the basket and still improving.

Wood really doesn't have a lot of mileage on his body, last yr was his first full season in the NBA. I would say he's the equivalent of a 2nd or 3rd yr player, even though he's turning 26 yts old. He needs to get stronger and he needs to pickup his defense.

We can't trade everybody. We have a nucleus to start with; Wood, Porter, Martin and Tate. Along with tradable assets and draft picks.

Wall is the only guy who is untouchable.

Because he’s expensive and he sucks.

    But......

If we don't get a top 4 pick, our rebuild probably takes a little longer & Wood for a good offer is more enticing. ( also if we get Mobley he's trade able)

I also think Wood should play like Giannis / Davis Esp in the regular season.
Start a big C to take the bumps in the regular season. Then close with Wood at the C.

I agree with the sentiment that pretty much no one on a 16 win team should be "untouchable" but we certainly shouldn't be looking to trade him for the time being, which is almost the same thing.

Our rebuild/retool really needs to have us competitive by 2024. If we trade Wood it's pretty certain that it's not going to happen in that timeline. The Rockets were playing very good basketball for a stretch after Harden was traded and Wood getting injured is what started the tailspin.

I don't get the handwringing over possibly paying him the max. Every team has to spend 90% of the cap. What else are the Rockets going to use that money on that would be better than Wood if he continues to improve and adds some strength? No marquee FA is signing here for a while. Almost everyone on CF who weighed in trashed the Jazz for resigning Gobert for the almost maximum they could give him so I guess that's consistent. But half of CF also wants to pay Ben Simmons $40mm rather than have the Nets draft for the next 7 years so idk.

I'm really curious of how he handles this offseason. He finally got his taste of being 'the man' having a lot of touches and leash for an entire season. He said all the right things that he was hungry for more, wants to win and now this offseason he can take a look and see what he wants to build on or if he wants to settle for big stats. I'm veering towards optimistic that he has turned the corner and become an 'allstar player' and hes on an amazing contract the next two years. Defintiely no reason to trade him this season unless we get a deal that blows us out of the water. If we get a top 5 pick, I'd relaly consider it just for the time line and I'm looking at you warriors. Maybe someone who needs to win now and then we can continue building our future with ideally two huge prospects this year and then one next year and we may very well be set for the decade with who we have and who we can draft in that case.

If he stays, which I expect at that contract price, i love his time so far as a rocket. he was a bright spot in a terrible season and him and kpj, kmj, tate give us a lot to look forward to how they grow this offseason. He will be due a big contract in two years over 20 million, but we can also figure that out next offseason and even package him with wall next offseason. In any case, stone's signing of wood put us in a great place, now we have the options and power and assets to decide.

I don't consider him untouchable , not at all ..... But the offer would have to be a very good one for me to consider moving him.

20/10 big men who shoot 35% or better from 3 point land are at a premium in this league.

While he missed a whole lot of games , I truly believe that much of that was to solidify the tank .... If there were meaningful games , he'd have played. Same for Wall & EG .... You can't convince me that EG wasn't 100% healthy at some point and could have stepped in and played. Just like a calf strain kept Exum out from day one to seasons end .... They held KPJ out of quite a few that he could have played ....

A lot of those missed games were to support the tank.

What would it take to get me to trade him ? I need a lotto pick in the top 6 and a young player with upside and I'm not taking back a bad contract either.

If GSW landed a top 3 pick I'd take Wiseman & Poole to make the $$ work along with that top 3 pick- And next years #1.

I absolutely think they should trade him if they get a respectable offer. I don't trust his health. If one of these teams like the Warriors, Lakers or Clippers who are underperforming would give us multiple 1sts for him I would do it in a second. If I had any faith in his health it would be different, but I just don't.

Feels like the NBA game is at the perimeter now. It’s faster, relies on longer shots, and most big guys aren’t able to keep up and the ones that can often get injured because of how much more strain they put on their bodies.
