So you think the sponsors could contribute their commercial time but the sport can't contribute their play by play time? A death sentence disease is less important than than you enjoying 1 out of 162 games?
Ironically (or stupididly), Tropicana Field was specifically built for a baseball team only (before they’d even secured one), not simply to be a multi-purpose cookie-cutter facility (which is what it turned into when they couldn’t get a baseball team). Jack Murphy was similar to the Astrodome in that it was built first for baseball, then the football team’s renovations really took away from the outfield views and the charm. And while Oakland’s stadium similarly had that going for them, it would have been in need of a replacement even if mount Davis wasn’t ever built... but we now have plenty of examples of how the football team’s “needed” renovations ruined the baseball viewing experience. We also saw that all those football teams eventually moved. That being said, the Astrodome was only 20 years old when owners started looking for major renovations. MMP is now 21 years old and while there have been tweaks here/there, its held up very well.
You really don't understand the difference between virtue and virtue signaling, do you? The virtuous meet a need. The virtue signalers broadcast that they feel bad for those in need and then do nothing except chide those who don't broadcast their support for other virtue signalers.
Uh....I have no idea what you are trying to say. The intent of a "Lou Gehrig day" is to raise awareness and subsequently funds to help combat the disease. Not only that, MLB does contribute as an organization to ALS. So, please explain to me how an organization that contributes money, raises money and brings awareness about a disease, is "doing nothing"
I'm all for giving days off but maybe try to stagger it so multiple important players don't have the same day off?
One for three. Contributes money - Virtuous - if done without fanfare. Raises money - Virtue signaling - Look at me helping! Awareness - Virtue signaling - Look at me helping!
Really? So, JJ Watt using his influence to generate millions in donations for Harvey is "virtue signaling"? Making folks aware of things they'd otherwise not know a lot about using one's (personal or company) platform is "virtue signaling"? That being the case, I am 100% FOR virtue signaling. Sorry they interrupted your ballgame. They are horrible.
especially your two hottest hitters (well, definitely your hottest in Tucker; Altuve is arguable as number 2, but Correa’s OBP has been .500 for almost a month now).
Dusty doesn't want to embarras Boston so he's trying to throw the game like he does every series where we are going for a sweep. He is fine with 2-1 or 3-1 series wins. He's so old school you have to go back 40 years to understand what he's doing.
There is a synergistic effect among hitters with high on base percentages. I'd much rather be down Brantley, Tucker, and Correa for one day and only down Brantley the other game than mess up 2 games missing Brantley and Tucker one game, and Brantley and Correa another. Edit: "Much" is probably too strong as I think getting guys rest when they need it is more important than staggering it or not staggering it.
I don't think you understand what a "Karen" is. You're the one crying that they slightly inconvenienced you by talking about ALS and interviewing people with it during the game. If anything, you're the Karen lol
Yeah... you complaining how promoting a cause is inconveniencing your precious entertainment makes me the 'Karen'.
Routine days off. Lol. Play them. They’ll be off tonight. We’re trying to win another game Dusty. And take that mask and gloves off. You’re vaccinated.
Isn't this 90% the case when someone calls another a derogatory term? It is like telling someone to calm down. The only reason to tell someone to calm down is if you want things to escalate.
