There's a placard commemorating the labor of Black Americans in excavating the parks on the Wakefield side of a trail circuit, Lake Accotink/Wakefield, that I use. Despite this, there's a segregated element that makes such parks uncomfortable for some of the forebears. It's gotten somewhat better over the years but it's a twisted shame that this historical knowledge is taken for granted and somewhat a lost cause.
