I thought the game was going to end with Jones making the catch in the 9th. Instead it ends with him striking out.
Jones should be DFA'd after the todays game. Baker gotta go too. Click has to do better as well. We've got a AAA bullpen.
This Astros team has lost 6 out of the past 7 games. Of those 6 losses, 4 of them (including both Padres games) were winnable games if the team (both players and Dusty) had exercised a bit better situational awareness and decision making. These aren't "tip your cap to the other team" losses; they are losses where the Astros beat themselves. It sucks to lose any game, but the WAY this team has lost these recent games is very frustrating.
Unreal - I have no words to describe how putrid our bullpen and hitting in clutch moments has been. It's like two different clubs are occupying the same uniform.
I'm trying to find a way to eliminate bullpens from ever existing. Is this possible? So we have 7 really good starters if Jake gets his groove back. What if we picked up 4 more pitchers that could be possible starters, cut all of the bullpen guys and just leave the closer. We could have them piggy back the starter. MLB has to do their part and proclaim 2 off days every 7 days for every team. It could work. Hey, At least I'm trying to come up with something. What are Click and Baker doing? chewing on a toothpick and the other one is just mooching of Luhnow. The easiest solution would be the bullpen not freaking sucking. I don't recall an Astros bullpen being so bad they drag the entire team down. 2000, 2009? I vaguely remember those years.
Exactly. I think that's why these loses hurt more. Someone, can't remember which poster said there was a bad mood towards the team right now. And it's just for that reason alone. Just gifting away wins.
One thing Luhnow was great at was building a roster Not talking about the stars, he could fill in a roster with the best of them Click....not so much
1981 ?? Stros are embarrassing themselves notoriously When Framber returns, whichever starter gets pushed to the bullpen (along with Javier) needs to be pitching 2+ innings every relief appearance. Every other current bully not named Pressly should be pitching half their current pace and/or somewhere else. I also wouldn't mind 3 or our top 6 hitters not DNP'ing
The very good news is that the Padres will be ahead of the Dodgers for 2 games and the Giants are ahead 1 game after tonight. We lost, but we helped the Dodgers slide to 3rd place. Then the lucky A's didn't gain any more ground tonight.
Crane thought he was making a power-move by firing Luhnow and Hinch, but he may've only empowered Astros' opponents.
Coincidentally, on this date in 2017, the Astros came back from 8-2 down in the 8th inning to beat the Twins 16-8.
The flipside - would you rather be a team that's losing because the other teams are better, or a team that's losing because you're making correctable mistakes?
