Only strategy he knows. He seems like a good dude but damn he just confuses the hell out of my amateur baseball-fan brain
It’s hard for a manager to win games in baseball - too much depends on player execution where 30% success are good odds - but it’s sure as hell a lot easier for a manager to lose you games, and that’s exactly what Dusty did w that decision. That was baseball 101 **** and he botched the f*** outta it.
I am feeling like our offense, most nights, is good enough to take us all the way. Ditto for overall defense. Pitching, not so much. It is odd that there seems more emphasis around here on replacing Straw than how to fix the pitching staff.
Got to win 4 series in a row to make up for this winnable sweep the Rangers handed them. Now I'm going go splurge on some local boogeyman tees. F you Click and Baker and MLB.
Because in the next 2 weeks we will likely have Framber, Odorizzi, and Urquidy back. Taylor is also close to going on a rehab assignment. If they move Javier and Garcia to the pen it could look totally different. I hope Click adds arms at the deadline but a lot will change internally before any trades are made. Hopefully Baez gets back in June/July as well.
It isn't Abreu's fault he pitches too much, and his arm is jello. His slider has been sliding 1-2 inches mostly for about a week (I'm not even sure that should classify as a slider). With the way the hitters didn't hit, it probably didn't matter today who pitched. Bullpen only gave 1 run before extras.
I like the contingent of Astros fans who refuse to call out Dusty for the stupid decisions he makes no matter who ridiculous they may be. They fashion themselves as the “smart” fans who are the only ones to realize that the players are much more important than the manager in terms of determining the success of the team.
Swept by a crap team that we hate. Hurts to lose to this team. Astros just an average team until they fix the bullpen.
Even more frustrated reading those quotes. If he makes the same sort of pitch with a runner at first, or the bases loaded, it’s an inning ending DP. when you make that pitch with the infield in, and a base open, you lose the game. There’s no defending it. Even when he explains the rationale it’s still wrong... and that’s a serious issue if he uses similar logic in other times where he has to make tough decisions.
Stros lead MLB in runs/game. Can't do much better. They're also top-5 in most all defensive metrics I'm looking at. 10th in starting pitcher ERA. 11th in bullpen WHIP, 16th in BAA, 14th in IP, 14th in ERA, tied-20th inherited runners scored %
It will probably take Framber another 6 months to get back to quality. Don't expect much. He should add some cement to the mix, but don't expect lightning in a bottle. Same with Verlander.
