A #1 pick automatically gets 8.1 as in that’s the minimum value of his contract?

Contracts for rookies are each slotted based on where they were drafted. The amount is tied
to a certain percentage of the salary cap and fluctuates each season. Players can sign for as
much as 120% and as little as 80% of the rookie scale so each contract can be different.

This is not inception. This is just a stopgap strategy, a hedge. I'm not really in favor of it but we were either stuck with Wall or Westbrook, can't flip a bad $40M contract for young assets.

I'm gonna have to play with the numbers a bit before I can respond .... But I have some idea's on how to proceed that puts them back in contention in a season and a half.
I'll try to go over the $$$ later tonight.

The limited upside squad is probably more appropriate honestly. It's not that those guys are bad (though they aren't good) it's just that they've kind of tapped out and there isn't a future there. Regardless, they are just place holders until their replacement is ready to step in.

Crazy isn't it? I just think going this way allows for the newbies to sink or swim without being thrown to the wolves to mix metaphors. AND it keeps the tank alive for one more go around. Paulo Banchero? Chet Holmgten? Jaden Hardy? AJ Griffin? Patrick Baldwin? Daimion Collins?

But doesn't it appear to be the strategy being employed? For better or worse, that's the case in my eyes.

funny... i would say just the inverse...

the whole MDA/Harden era has been PROVEN to be FOOL's GOLD at this point! Statistically beneficial - but too shortsighted to actually win a championship...

Folks can make whatever excuses they want (GSW was a juggernaut, blame Tilly, CP3's hammy, etc...) but at the end of the day all the hubris and megalomania that enveloped this team for the last how many years was the real reason why this team never made it over the hump...

for example... sure... one can put it all on CP3's hammy... or the refs...
but if we had had an alternative game plan to mindlessly chucking 3s... maybe that 0-27 series woulda turned out different...

You can lament the loss of Harden/MDA era... but it was a flawed system with flawed individuals - that was always destined to lead to heartache... but you feel free to wax nostalgic on what could have been... without accepting that it was ego(s) that prevented the endeavor from coming to fruition.

but i'm sure yer gonna believe what you want to believe... even in hindsight when the evidence is obvious...

oh i think we should have been doing this all along... rather than wasting roster spots on the likes of Bobby Brown... or otherwise wasting roster spots on guys that were never gonna make it onto the court - while the likes of PJ and Ariza were overloaded with minutes...
its all a balance.... and we never exercised any balance regarding anything - everything was to the nth degree... imo... lol

    LOL

    Not worth relitigating.

The facts speak very clearly on it's own merits.

With Harden/Morey/MDA - top team in West

Without Harden/Morey/MDA - worst team in NBA

    Enjoy!

I'm willing to give a pass given the success at the time. Now, no choice but to play the long game.

Yep, the facts speak very clearly on their own merit - zero championships, zero NBA finals appearances...

if yer playing for regular season glory - congrats we won! Let me know when the banner is going up!

We won as many NBA championships this year as we did during the entirety of the MDA/Harden era...

and we advanced no further during the entire MDA era than we had done under McHale (who led us to the 2nd best record in the west and WCF).... and i would say MDA had more pieces to work with than McHale did... and McHale was an idiot.... so you draw the inference....

    facts - they can be a b****...

    LOL!

of course, yer probably still maintaining that the Lakers won paying small ball - since 6'10 Davis wasnt listed as a center and 6'9 Bron wasnt listed as a power forward...

even after the pipe dream is dead - yer still arguing the validity of it all...

yeh... i think that was our downfall... 'giving folks a pass given our success at the time...'
looking back on all the wasted or under utilized roster spots we had... if we had 1 or 2 more guys who coulda given anything (or possibly just been given the opportunity - ie Trez) i think at least 1 or 2 years coulda ended differently... imo...
1 or 2 less meltdowns... and things coulda gone differently...

    woulda, shoulda, coulda....

    lol
