I was really hoping Leon would be fastracked but it looks like he will need more than a year to get it together. Sure wish he was better than Straw right now.

I think an awful lot of Astros fans were hoping that

I doubt the Astros fast track him this season, but I wouldn't worry about his current overall stats after 11 games. A week from now, his last 11 games stats will likely be much better.

No, they were open to the idea of fast tracking him if he showed he was ready. He blew them away this spring with his conditioning, athleticism and ability. They are working on his swing, as he has a couple holes in it.

Leon missed over two full seasons because of his flee from Cuba and then COVID. He has only played like 60 games as a profession in his whole life. If he starts hitting, they will fast track him. He has had a very slow start, but is talented enough to turn it around quickly.

Yep. His 39% k rate is ugly as hell, but his .150 BABIP is bound to go up dramatically with as hard as he hits the ball. There was bound to be an adjustment period for him regardless of which level he started at. It would not surprise me at all if he got extremely hot over Jun/Jul and was in position for a late season callup or at least in the mix to take over at SS next year.

The Astros may be open to the idea of fast tracking him, and may still, but it is already May 19th. There just is not much time for him to be fast tracked this season to get acclimated to AA and then get acclimated to the majors before the playoffs (if the Astros make it).

I agree with you that time isn't on his side and most likely he finishes the season in AA or possibly AAA. However, with him, if he suddenly clicks and the scouts like him, he will likely be given a shot in CF (even with him mostly playing SS). He is the one guy that the Astros have that can potentially be a game changer.

I don't disagree. My opinion was based on limited time before Astros likely want to have their CF for the year determined and Astros teaching him SS (if they think he'll be up soon, he likely doesn't have time to learn SS).

I just hope he is completely ready and this isn't some sort of desperation move. Otherwise, this is great news. Sure need some more arms at the ML level.

It’s a spot start. They only need him for one turn in the rotation with Valdez and Odorizzi both expected to be back in the next couple of weeks. They probably could have gotten away with using Bielak due to the off day freshening up the bullpen but using Ivey let’s them keep Bielak available in case a starter gets knocked out early. Plus it gives them a look at Ivey against big league hitters in a game that matters.

I wonder how many of the Minor league games are affected by the storms today?

Hunter Brown only lasted 1.2 innings in his 2nd appearance of the season today: 6h, 3er, 1bb, 3k, 41p.
