especially when the supporting cast was 1-7 without Curry before barely winning the meaningless game vs New Orleans (minus Zion,Ingram, Ball, Adams). If the rest of the team was so great you'd imagine they'd perform better than a 11-72 or 17-65 win rate.
It doesn't count until round 1 I think. Which makes sense since losing in the playin rounds (2 games) isnt much of a postseason. This further incentivizes and rewards teams for finishing in the top 6 while simultaneously keep clubs 7-12 in the "race" for the playoffs.
02-03 orlando is my vote for the nba. https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ORL/2003.html we're talking the early 2000's eastern conference (terrible), the 8th seed (worst playoff team), and tmac having one of the few 30 PER seasons ever at that point so it was basically all one guy, meaning the supporting cast was awful. that team didn't have a top 5 defense like this warriors team. it was #20 so they were actually relying on the offense. minutes leaders after tmac: pat garrity (2584 minutes of pat garrity!) darrell armstrong (34 years old by this point) mike miller (actually traded midseason so not even there the whole year) jacque vaughn shawn kemp (as in the last season of his career) andrew declercq jeryl sasser (never played another nba minute) gordan giricek 29 games (at only 29 mpg) of grant hill battling injuries was the best other player on the team.
their are plenty teams worse than this to make the playoffs in a sport especially in the nba.. the 2004 boston celtics were 10 under .500 and clinched the 8 seed in the east.. no play in required edit: are they even the worst team to make the play-in this year... lol look at the charlotte hornets or pacers( who've both had injuries to lamelo ball, hayward and tj warren, myles turner( respectively)
take any great player off a team, and they will struggle look at the rockets this year. A motivated harden would definetly have them in the playoffs, but at what cost. also earlier to mid season of the year the warriors were fully healthy and were getting blown out 20 and 30 points routinely WITH STEPH CURRY
i guess i assumed he meant the roster outside of curry so i was doing the roster outside of tmac. this warriors team overall is certainly not close to the worst roster to make the playoffs.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/friv/mvp.html steph curry not in bbref top 10 mvp tracker has this ever happened before where the media and the basketball gospel are so off with their opinion of who should be league mvp. Even when russ won the award over harden and kawhi. i think westbrook was still top 3 in their bbref tracker behind harden and kawhi respectively how on earth can the opposing views be so vastly different, the media has curry top 3 and basketball reference has him no where in the top 10... ONE WORD, and its a word that is only applied to the NBA out of the 4 mjaor sports in north america when it comes to accolades and awards and that word is NARRATIVE. Its a narrative based award this is why ranking players in the nba all-time is dumb. its not like the mlb, nhl or nfl where the best guy usually for the most part gets the nod, although i did have a problem with aaron donald winning defensive player of he year over tj watt this past season. But those instances are rare
The people pushing the Steph for MVP narrative the hardest seem to be the players. The media on average sits somewhere between where the numbers have it and where the players have it, as is typically the case. That’s what I’d expect to happen when the media represents a diversity of views.
Maybe it looks at win loss record with the player playing. 33-19 for Miami, which isn’t bad (not great either).
Yeah, let's reach a new low by awarding the MVP to a guy that will most likely not make the actual playoffs in a shortened season.
I recall that the players chose Harden as MVP, back in the day when the media wouldn't. I think the players look at who's playing well, because they face them. The media has other parameters.
hold up, wait i thought the warriors clinched the 8th seed when they beat memphis. Im so confused, so you mean to tell me if the lakers beat the warriors on wednesday the warriors will still end up in the lottery wtf. Im not even joking i had no idea. This play in is so damn confusing. the warriors clinched the 8th seed( they earned that) and as much i dont like curry and the warriors they SHOULD BE IN THE PLAYOFFS edit: in fact knowing what i know now, if i was the warriors i would have tanked that memphis game. Because the game was hyped up as a defacto playoff game. But they still arent in the playoffs( so what was the point of going all out to try and win that game) i would have rather played the spurs than the damn lakers
No It is a bit different than you think. The winner of Lakers Wariors are the 7th seed. The losers play the winner of the Spurs-Memphis game. An the winner of that game get's the 8th seed. So the Warriors need to win one game (of possible 2) to get into the play offs. The grizzlies need to win both play in games to get the 8th seed.
Lebron is so full of ****. He is always self-serving. He is saying Curry is the MVP to hype him up, so when the Lakers beat the Warriors (as they should, they are clearly the better team) then he can say that he beat the guy who should be the MVP. He wants to hype up a game that shouldn't be close.
