That’s honestly what my thoughts were too about him. Him and Fields arm talent in terms of accuracy is below Mac and Wilson. Lawrence and Fields have more physical upside though.
One "problem" I have with nit-picking is I'm old enough to have seen Jeff George play, so I can see "gaps."
Outside of the Jets game, I don't see any wins unless Lawrence is bad (which I'm not expecting). Even the Jets are probably going to be favored against us. In my opinion, we have 4 players that are actually worth something. Tunsil, Cooks (who is 1 concussion away from retiring probably), Cunningham, and Roby. I am a believer that this is going to be the worst NFL team in modern history. We have no QB (unless Watson comes back), our RBs are old and overpaid, we have 1 wide receiver that is proven and the rest are jags, zero play-making TEs, and a terrible offensive line that only has 1 guy worth anything. Our defense will also be at the bottom of the league and our front office/ownership has turned into a laughing stock. I gotta say it's going to be hilarious when the Texans draft ANOTHER defensive end with the first overall pick next draft. If only there was a generational QB coming out next year.
I'd add Tytus Howard and Justin Reid to the list but the overall lack of talent is just ridiculous. I'm intrigued with the RB group though, especially Lindsay. Hoping the OL will be better just by the subtraction of Martin and Devlin. The defense doesn't have much of a shot IMO.
I thought about adding both of those guys but they both had bad years. Maybe they have a bounceback year, but I doubt it.
Best thing that could happen to the Texans is Mills plays and shows he's a franchise QB. I think the OL will be fine with the new OL coach and I like the Britt at C. Plus if Taylor/Cannon are healthy the OL will be much improved. These guys have all been starters for successful playoff teams. Gotta stay healthy though. The 3 old RB's should stay healthy and productive throughout the season because it's going to be RB by committee. I actually really like the Lindsay signing. This guys explosive and can take it to the house at anytime. First time the Texans have had a RB like this since Foster left.
The schedule is tough They're looking for their QB, hopefully that's Mills. The defense particularly the secondary is going to be bad. I see a 4 win team.
In my best Rock voice, "it doesn't matter, Pete!" With as competitive as the NFL is, it is amazing what some of these teams (even flagship franchises) do with coaching hires. Dave Campo, Jim Tomsula, Ben McAdoo, et al. all say hello. Should be noted, all three (4 counting Culley) followed ball busters, maybe that's the lesson learned?
