But the As are frustrated like the Raiders were with the Oakland politicians.

Vegas is going to give them an incredible offer plus you have tourists which is another factor.
Lots of fans to the Hockey Games are from the opposing team because they have fans who are vacationing.

Baseball plays so many games, so it's a no brainer.

It's not a coincidence that the Hockey stadium is on the strip and the Football arena is just on the opposite side.
Baseball stadium on the strip would be nuts.

Always thought it was weird for those cities to have two teams too! Especially LA having two teams in MLB, NFL, and the NBA. Austin and Louisville still don't have any major league sports teams, and I'm sure they would love the opportunity to support one.

But yeah, that makes sense regarding Oakland. Wasn't sure if it was more of a Dallas / Fort Worth type of relationship or if they were two different distinct cities. I hope for their city sake, they stay in Oakland.

Aren't Dallas and Fort Worth two different/distinct cities?

Its all about population size and density. Cities like Chicago and NYC have more than enough of a metro population to support multiple teams. LA has not only the population but the sheer land-space to have two completely geographically isolated teams.

Those big cities by themselves, even with sharing the limelight with other teams, are still more supportive markets (both fan wise and corporate wise) than Louisville or Austin. Corporate support is far more important than simple fan support.

    just the opposite

for more than 2 generations, since the A's winning several world series in the 70s and Raiders winning the Superbowl in the 70s/80s,
they're talking about building a stadium to house the A's and Raiders.

it never materialized, the Raiders left to play in LA, then the politicians lured them to return to Oakland w the promise of a new stadium, that was a generation ago.

I agree... the local following and TV/radio deals far more important in baseball. But you do have games everyday when teams in town... and given how Vegas has become a destination for a slew of national conferences, you could see them tying in events/promotions at a ballpark with ease.

There was a time where people would tune into baseball to watch whoever. I know MLB thinks there's a chance things could get back to that with better marketing of stars and making the game more "watchable". I'd go to a 1pm A's-Angels game if I was in town... like I said before, not much else to do in Vegas at those times, besides the obvious.

They should move to Austin. Austin FC tickets are going for 300 bucks a seat and they have 2 million people in the metroplex with lots of growth. It would pretty hard to build a stadium here though.

Oh, absolutely, if Oakland doesn't build them a new ballpark, they're gone. I totally agree with that, and I get it. My post wasn't as much about that as about where they should be.

Baseball playing so many games is actually one of the concerns I would have about it being relocated to LV instead of another market. Showing up to an NFL game on a Sunday afternoon is nothing but a sacrifice of your Sunday afternoon...showing up after work to an MLB game on a Wednesday night that lasts over 3 hours on a work or school night is a whole different commitment....and MLB asks you to make that commitment a lot....and it asks 40,000 of you to show up for that...not 17,000 - 20,000 like the NHL.

I don't imagine a lot of people would be opting for an evening at one of 162 MLB games if they're spending the money to go to Las Vegas. I'm certain there will be a novelty for a while...but the people spending money to stay at a Vegas hotel (with casinos, bars, and nightly shows and concerts) on vacation and the "let's go spend 3 hours at the ballpark" crowd are pretty different crowds looking for pretty different experiences.

Maybe I live under a rock, but I considered them pretty much the same. I split half my time lately in Dallas as well.

LOL nothing screams Vegas more than Tiesto having a set with a bunch of blonde girls at the DJ table.

I'm not sure I understand...I completely agree with what you're saying, so I wasn't sure if you were misunderstanding my post. Oakland, in and of itself, is a fine market provided they get a ballpark funded there. If Oakland won't publicly fund, then the market won't matter and they will ultimately relocate.

Could Vegas support MLB and AAA?

Vegas recently built a new AAA ballpark - it would be a waste to abandon it but I can’t see a MLB team wanting to retrofit it especially with the location in Summerlin isn’t near the Strip.

They don't. No one does because of COVID restrictions. They averaged about 21K per game in 2019, which would almost certainly go up with a brand new and better located ballpark. Beyond that, the Bay Area media market is massive, and far bigger than the Vegas', and local media market is a big part of an MLB franchise's revenues.

That number is terrible relative to their capacity allowance. Even now they have capacity at 12k but only get 5-6k a game which is dead last in the league

Would the baseball stadium be allowed to take bets on the game and/or have slot machines?
