I posted my resume over at the Chronicle jobs site. Yesterday I got a call from Bernard Haldane Associates asking me to come in for a career assesment appointment. I did and it seemed to go very well. Has anyone ever used this company or others like it? If so, what were your results or thoughts about the process? BTW, I'm doing this for reasons other than I'm unhappy in anyway in my current job. I love Swirve and I ain't leaving until Major kicks my ass out!
I have used headhunters many times, but I can tell you firsthand that Bernard Haldane & Associates is a bunch of bull****sky. They call you in, talk to you about your goals, and then try to sell you a "detailed career analysis" that is supposed to tell you where they think you should look for a job. Go with a real headhunter, not those yahoos.
Call me. It all depends on what you are looking for. The ones that I know are all IT headhunters since that's what I do.
That ain't me. I'll probably go back for our next appointment and see what that's all about. If they try to get me to pay for something like that, I'll just leave. Anyone else have any experience with them?
I worked as a headhunter for a few years. We never did a "career assesment" for anyone. From my experience, I would say that if they don't have a specific job in mind for you, don't waste your time. Real headhunters find people for jobs, not jobs for people.
The first step is to figure out what kind of job you want, then find the headhunters that specialize in that type of job or industry.
