I'm all for it. Hopefully not with taxpayer dollars, but for it. Voters need to be confident in their ballots and if that means letting conspiracists test the paper or whatever they need to do to prove crackpot theories, go ahead and do it.
Tax payers fund aimed to confuse and sow doubts. This is the new Republican way forward to ensure even less confident in the election process. https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...re-vote-examination-effort-gets-more-bizarre/ The “audit” to which Stefanik refers is a remarkable exercise in trying to gin up doubt about the results in the state. Authorized by the Republican state Senate, it is being managed by a firm with no demonstrable track record in validating ballots and run by a man whose embrace of debunked conspiracy theories about fraud were elevated by former Trump attorney Sidney Powell. The effort to review every ballot cast in Maricopa County — which by itself gave President Biden his margin of victory in the state — has been undertaken using an opaque, often inscrutable process, outside of the close view of objective third parties and with the assistance of obviously motivated actors, such as a former legislator who was at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Sure. Seeing sustained efforts to scrutinize the votes will give leaners a rationalization for their concern that the election really might have been tainted. But, seeing political opponents try to block the further scrutiny of votes will also give them a rationalization to be concerned about a tainted election. The double-bind political actors are attempting here isn't very responsible, imo. But it seems to me the lesser of two evils to allow them to proceed and then take a really hard look at the evidence they come up with in the end.
I agree but who is going to take a really hard look at the evidence? You know there are just gonna be 3 other theories claiming malfeasance after the count.
If they find credible evidence (lol), hopefully prosecutors. If they don't, hopefully journalists. I recognize that journalism will have limited value here. Right now, Fox News will cover the audit breathlessly while MSNBC just laughs it off. And once it fails, MSNBC might shout it from the rooftops, but Fox News will dismiss the whole story and the Trumpers will forget it was ever a thing or else assume that the valiant effort was secretly undermined by Deep State actors. In the meantime, I just don't see the value in getting into fights with Trumpers on whether the audit is just propaganda BS. Arguing about it just increases its effectiveness as propaganda. So go ahead and do the audit and let me know what scandals they uncover. Speaking of which, I believe John Durham is still special counsel and I'm sure is pretty darn close to releasing his report exposing the Trump-Russia investigation as a Deep State fraud. I frankly can't wait.
When did we moved to an era of bs or pure conspiracy theories as legitimate reasons for investigations? Perhaps the US gov should open an investigation into if the earth is flat. If not, flat earthers will think the gov is hiding something.
