We all have heard of the special relationship and deep respect D'Antoni has with his star guards like Harden, Nash, CP3, Westbrook, etc. But even the role players like PJ would run through walls for him.
By many accounts, players LOVE to play for MDA. We probably succeeded a lot on our dependency in the buy out market because of MDA as well too. Players love being able to come, not over think it and play free flowing basketball with a lot of posessions, hes humble and almost never takes credit, he is true and true a players coach. Lots of arguments about his defense(Which we solved with an associate jeff bzdelik before tilly ran him off to be with his family...or pelicans), but in modern nba where its more about the players and they have power, MDA is a huge draw to a team. He and his wife were class acts in Houston, sad to see him disrespected the way he was by our owner in public media in 2019
I needed that wholesome **** today in the midst of the fertitta mania, They didn't even know what to say but it was obviously all love. What a special team.
I don't ever recall MDA being interviewed after a game and saying he hadn't even talked to or checked on an injured player. SMDH. Thanks Tilman.
I recall Tilman going to the media and saying Dantoni was too old to drive down his market value and made Dantonis wife lawyer up. That was neat! Patrick and I both learned a lot about leadership by shutting up and listening to that.
"bzdelik has been coaching for 40 years, starting his career off at the University of Illinois-Chicago and also spending time with the University of Maryland, Air Force Academy, Colorado and Wake Forest. In the NBA, he’s coached with the Denver Nuggets, Memphis Grizzlies, and the Rockets, who he has been with since 2016. He is leaving the game to spend more time with his family" " September 14, 2019 9:25 am The New Orleans Pelicans have officially hired former assistant coach of the Houston Rockets Jeff Bzdelik. It was announced Friday in a team press release that he was named associate head coach over the defense, the same position he held in Houston." "Morey cited his desire to spend time with his family as justification to make the abrupt move to part ways with the contending Rockets" " Morey expected to sign long-term deal to lead Sixers basketball op" " "I think his agent did me a favor, OK," Fertitta said at the media availability, explaining that he now had an easy out if the Rockets had a disappointing year and decided to move on from D'Antoni. That's typically not the kind of comment made out loud, much less to the media, by an owner who is attempting to defuse drama. Of course, it's also an unusual approach to point out a coach's age and publicly wonder whether he wanted to continue working beyond next season, as Fertitta did when asked by the Houston Chronicle weeks earlier about a potential extension. That prompted the 68-year-old D'Antoni to make it clear that he planned to coach "at a high level for at least another three years." Nor is it normal NBA business practice to spill the specifics of an offer that wasn't accepted. Fertitta volunteered that the "great extension offer" he made D'Antoni included a $5 million base salary -- below market value for a coach of his stature -- and $1 million in incentives for each playoff round won. "Fertitta failed to mention the buyout language that guaranteed D'Antoni only half of his base salary if the Rockets fired him before the extension began. That was the primary sticking point for D'Antoni, who hoped for a commitment of two more seasons beyond this contract and never seriously considered a half-hearted offer of one more year. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...amn-turmoil-unsettling-vibe-surrounds-rockets
"This has nothing to do with ownership. This is one of the most uniquely selfish things I've ever done." - Tad Brown "Brown does not know what's next for him but says "it's the right time" for him and his family to pursue something else." - Clutch I'm seeing a strange trend of people who have decades long careers having sudden inexplicable changes of heart to do "something else" with no clear plan in mind. I wonder if there's some kind of common factor.
Yea something about Fertita is like a disney movie, he makes people want to spend more time with their families. how wholesome of Tilman
After a year when most people were stuck at home with their families -> TF somehow convinces them to want more.
I can see him pitching it for his next reality show, sort of transition from his last cancelled one, The Profit into more of an undercover boss, wholesome, heartwarming who is playing 3d chess by playing bad cop and forcing them all to go back and spend more time with their families. Thats his true purpose in this world " "I look at things totally differently," he tells CNBC Make It. "I believe that what you've created is a legacy for you and your family." Fertitta" We had him pegged all wrong, Terrible. I'm sorry Tilman. Take my money, give me a watered down entertainment experience or food, I get the big picture now. Who will he save next?
Ha Just like the cups being reused, no full new t-shirt, just cross out the 2020 and put 2021. Landry's Style
I'm gonna go with no. Which is unfortunate, he seems like good people. He's been thrown into the sea this year.
