Honestly watching Russ give your team the lead by grinding out drives then take it away by short arming pull up 3s has got to be the most frustrating experience in basketball watching
its just ****ing exhausting mentally to watch Russ down the stretch Layup Forced shot. Blown defensive board Great assist Defensive breakdown. TO Cherry picked layup. Missed closeout for 3 Missed closeout for 3 Failed boxout. Assist
Not at all. This is all **** that actually happened (maybe not entirely in sequence) from me watching in real time. I just went back and checked, and it's pretty much all there. Layup Forced shot. https://www.nba.com/stats/events/?G...&title=MISS Westbrook 8' Turnaround Jump Shot Blown defensive board https://www.nba.com/stats/events/?G...=Antetokounmpo REBOUND (Off:2 Def:6)&sct=plot ^(This one was AWFUL! missed jumper bounces right past Westbrook standing alone in the lane leading to killer 3) Great assist https://www.nba.com/stats/events/?G...Cutting Dunk Shot (36 PTS) (Westbrook 15 AST) Defensive breakdown. (This one is repeating the Forbes 3 off the blown board, my bad. Not really Westbrook's breakdown) TO https://www.nba.com/stats/events/?G...=1&title=Westbrook Lost Ball Turnover (P2.T7) Cherry picked layup. https://www.nba.com/stats/events/?G...le=Westbrook 1' Dunk (29 PTS) (Mathews 1 AST) Missed closeout for 3 https://www.nba.com/stats/events/?G...ughton 3PT Jump Shot (13 PTS) (Holiday 5 AST) Missed closeout for 3 https://www.nba.com/stats/events/?G...on 26' 3PT Jump Shot (16 PTS) (Holiday 6 AST) Failed boxout. https://www.nba.com/stats/events/?G...0-21&flag=1&title=Lopez REBOUND (Off:2 Def:6) (Ok, Gafford should box out here - but this is where you absolutely NEED Russ to get a defensive board ... and, he doesn't. Assist https://www.nba.com/stats/events/?G...25' 3PT Jump Shot (42 PTS) (Westbrook 17 AST) Watch the game next time dope
Russ is a fun player to watch when you are a neutral fan and don't care about either his team or his opponent.
I wanted the Bucks to lose last night for Rockets draft position, having to watch Russ giveth, and taketh away was super frustrating and reminded me of last season. I don't know how I can prove this, but the Scott Brooks-Russ system of funneling EVERY single defensive board through Russ that generates his eye-popping trip dub stat lines seems to bite them in the ass when the other team decides to crash the glass and instead get dagger second shots late in the 4th. Also, Russ tends to drift towards the basket on any penetration to get ready for the rebound, leading to things like this happening twice in a row (Russ in no man's land while his man takes an open 3):
