I was just listening to an NPR story that what's driving much of the current rush to our border were two back to back hurricanes that caused devastating flooding in Central America. The residents there have lost their livelihoods and are barely above starving. They also haven't gotten that much aid compared to previous disasters that struck the area. This is another example that if we want to reduce the number of people trying to come through our Southern borders improving the conditions in Central America are going to be necessary otherwise we're just dealing with a symptom and not the causes for why people are willing to risk so much to try to come here.
