So do I. They wouldn't take me. I'm too old. Besides, hell would freeze over before my significant other would ride on a rocketship to Mars. Heck, even the Moon. Motion sickness. She would have to wear a dozen Dramamine patches at a time, 24/7. I don't get motion sickness.

Back in the late 1950's and into the '60's, I actually thought we would have gone to Mars by now. Perhaps a few scientific expeditions. That we would at least have one base on the Moon, possibly more, with major mining activity in progress. Also, a very large "way station" in Earth orbit that would be spinning enough to approximate the gravity of the Moon, or even better, that of Mars, which is a little over a third of Earth's. I read a lot of Clarke, Asimov, Heinlein and others back then, and I had an active imagination. Still do. A lot of good it does me. ;-)

Tesla makes almost no profit selling cars. their entire business runs because of tax credits and now regulatory credits. Without these programs i don't know if tesla would exist. He has done some great things, but he has taken advantage of the government.

I wouldn't use "tesla" and "self-driving" as a selling point right now.

As a jealous googl share holder looking on, I can't deny tesla's overpromise and eventually deliver model works. Promise the sky, share price goes up, sell more shares and use that $ to r&d/build.

couldn't decide which Elon Musk thread this should go in

"What the Elon Musk backlash is really about":

    https://theweek.com/articles/980027/what-elon-musk-backlash-really-about

    excerpt:

More deeply, Musk is offering an attractive techno-optimist vision of the future. It's one in stark contrast with that offered by anti-capitalists muttering about the need to abandon "fairy tales of eternal economic growth," as teen climate activist Greta Thunberg has put it. Unlike the dour, scarcity-driven philosophy of Thunbergism, Muskism posits that tech-powered capitalism can solve the problems it causes while creating a future of abundance where you can watch immersive video of SpaceX astronauts landing on Mars while traveling in your self-driving Tesla. As journalist Josh Barro neatly summed it up recently, "Environmentalism is supposed to be pain and sacrifice. Because Musk offers an environmental vision that is fun, futuristic and coded with all sorts of ‘bro' aspects, he is deeply suspicious and must be stopped."

Selling Bitcoin is now included along with selling those tax credits. Is that sustainable?

He announced that feature working when Tesla was almost insolvent.

I'd do it in that situation too but getting away with a lie of that magnitude changes a person.

In the world we live in would it even be possible to start a new car company without what you posted? Especially in this country, and especially an all-electric one?

China wants to move away from oil more than anyone so they are going to subsidize their companies to do so. I don't know what other options there could be.

You know what would piss them off?
If Elon Musk replaced these haters with Speedy Gonzales and Pepe Le Pew

they should do a skit where Elon gets yogurt from a yogurt shop and notices Demi Lovato trying to snort the coconut flakes
Because she thought it was cocaine

The guests are funnier than the cast now

Back in the day real talent came from SNL like Eddie Murphy , Sandler, Chris Rock, Farley , Tina Fey

people love Elon so they will watch
People who hate him don’t even watch SNL
