If your board says this can be starting caliber QB in three years, this is a much better use of resources than drafting a second tier WR, or CB considering the lousy state of the team. It all depends on their evaluation. I think the Texans suck, but Caserio wouldn't make this pick merely to send a message to Watson.

In a year without the off-season drama where maybe they had at least one pick in the first two rounds I would be all about this pick.

this year, with so much need on defense, having yet to pick, I’m not sold.

what’s the upside scenario here? The .05% upside scenario is he’s a really really good QB.

Otherwise maybe he nets you a 2/3 down the road. Which is what he was here.

I’m not judging him as a qb relative to Trask or Mond. Not that either was available but if they said Mills was their guy anyway fine, whatever. I didn’t want any of them.

The Texans put their prospects through a battery of new tests this year. Perhaps the most challenging was the mental fortitude test. Here, the prospect disrobes (except for a personal hand towel), oils up, and must resist the urge to proposition a flirtatious masseuse.

    So why will he fail?

I'm looking for an in-depth reason here and not a 'just because' since we're the delusional ones and I guess you're someone that's been scouting the draft?

He would have been a higher pick had he had more tape on him actually. All that I read on Twitter

    “Next year’s class sucks!”

No one knows if next year’s class sucks or not.

Joe Burrow wasn’t the number one pick after his first year at LSU.
12 months ago, no one was talking Zach Wilson as QB2@2.

(Allegations aside, LOL @ Texans even being in this situation)

Texans will do what the Texans want which is say they are trying to win a Super Bowl then continue to suck the wrong years aka sucking with no picks or sucking with there is no franchise QB in the draft just a weird franchise but they are very good at sucking

His stats are good though? The reason he's not higher is because he was injured, didn't play many games...and drafting guys based on stats alone would be a very bad idea. I mean, he has better college stats than Aaron Rodgers...stats in college exist to confirm something you know about a player, not to judge the player entirely by.

He has a good arm and mechanics, a good athlete, maybe he puts it together. Maybe he doesn't.

They’ve signed like 28 free agents which is the most in the NFL. Not sure why people are up in arms about them taking a shot at a guy with potential at the most important position in sports over another JAG defensive player.

Right, it isn't likely that any player you draft in the 3rd round is going to change the entire fortune of your team...except a QB.

Team isn't **** until they find a franchise QB, IMO, they should draft a QB with their first pick every year until they find a franchise QB.

You can absolutely hate picking a QB there, or want a different position.
Mills himself, is an intriguing prospect. Big, strong arm, athletic, smart. Super high recruit, tons of potential. Can he stay healthy? Can Pep work his magic?

If not, it’s a 3rd pick lost. We should be used to that.
