I do the same man. **** these delivery services. Total rip offs.
I’m an extremely generous tipper in general. I’ve almost gotten to the point where I hate it now. It’s not “gratuity” any more. It’s expected. Get a better job if it doesn’t make the cut. Or get a real service job where I’ll tip you 50% for a good job.

Noooo... not the biscuits. That's really, really effed. Years ago I would pull-up through the drive thru and order nothing but the biscuits, so I understand. Would have been equally angry if they forgot the honey packets. :D

Anyhow, I understand the driver in the video, but like others have said... blame it in the employer. So much money was spent by these companies here in CA to avoid reclassifying their workers. Unfortunately it worked.

For the past year to offset that, I'd pandemic tax myself when using Instacart. Pretty much including a bit of COD in addition to the tip that I included when making the order via the app. Figured the workers are putting themselves at risk, so maybe help them out a little more. I've since quit using them and other delivery services after getting vaccinated. Instacart's fee increases and item markups are criminal.

I'll also say that I know several of the employees at my favorite spots where I've been getting takeout extra often during the pandemic. I tip well. They know my name. I get ridiculously good service, they'll customize anything I want, and often throw in a freebie this or that. It's simply a more civilized way of conducting business.

That’s the way it should be done. You know they’re working for it and appreciative. They go the extra mile and you reward accordingly.
The entitlement and expectation from some is just ridiculous.
I won’t use these 3rd party services anymore. Have had nothing but bad luck. And that was with $10 tips on $25 orders.

Y’all do realize Ubereats, DoorDash, etc focus on restaurants that don’t have a delivery service or don’t deliver outside a certain area? Most restaurants will deliver with a 3-5 mile radius. Most pizza places are like that. You are paying for delivery services that outside the norm (for the most part). Getting PF Changs delivered from Sugar land and you like in 10-15 Miles away, will have a premium attached. The Drivers do not have to take order. Uber and DD have to entice the with a minimum guarantee with possibility on a bigger tip on top of that.

    The drivers are independent contractors.
What that driver did is wrong. She will be deactivated because of the publicity. DoorDash pays less than UberEats and people tip better with UE. However, DoorDash usually have more orders and their delivery range is based on zones which usually limits Driver drive times. UberEats can have some ridiculous drive range (usually the guarantee reflects that). Drivers are supposed to use hot bags to keep the food warm/hot.

Also, Drivers are not responsible for missing items in bags. They are not supposed to look in those bags. They ask the restaurant if everything is there, but the pandemic has emphasized not touching containers or food if at all possible.

It's certainly possible Popeye's botched your order. I guess the delivery person could have taken your cole slaw and 3 biscuits but seems really petty.

Did you get your revenge, i.e. write a bad review or call the Popeye's to complain?

I wouldn't take that sh*t. I want my cole slaw and 3 biscuits!

I refuse to use a third-party delivery service. I view it as gross for some reason. Too much handling going on there for my tastes. And, too many add-on expenses.

I sent a complaint to Popeye's and I think I got a refund for my whole order lol I mean it's hard to think they could have taken just my coleslaw and 3 biscuits but the delivery person had a car full of his friends with him and it looked like they had a few orders to drop off so maybe they got themselves a free meal out of it.

Yea this incident happened pretty early during quarantine last year and then I read about how much the restaurants were getting charged by the likes of Ubereats, Door Dash, etc so I made it my own mission to just call in the order and pick it up myself.

Does the concept of her being "deactivated" seem like a term that makes her seem less than human?

That being said, she deserves to get fired.

On a side note, once waiters start making $15/hr - how will that impact our tipping scale?

The delivery company releasing a statement about it does lend some credence to the story.

Then tipping becomes less of an obligation and more of a reward for good service.

Curbside FTW - I love picking up the food as I get there early and know it will be fresh.

In a lot of states, waiters are already making at least minimum wage on top of their tips. California, for example, has a $13/hr minimum wage plus tips. It doesn't seem to have lowered expected tips, people still expect 20%.

the cost of living in cali is significantly more over there. $13/hr is nothing if you live in cali, especially with your average home being $600k

I need more data on this, how do you know the "expected tip" is still 20%

    List these States, please.

    And list the others too.
