I have never been a big video game player but I think the best VG movie or movies have been Resident Evil and I liked Silent Hill I think the butcher guy is still one of the best visuals I have seen.

I liked Final Fantasy but I am talking about live action.

With all of the new technology for FX and with Super Hero movies doing so great I think a VG franchise is actually possible and it seems Mortal Combat is the beginning.

Never played Halo but have liked a bunch of the anime and I think it could support a live action franchise or a great TV series like Battlestar.

What is another great VG that could and should be live action.

They have made tons of Donkey Kong movies.

I would like to see GTA movies or series.

The key plot of Reamde by Neil Stephenson is World of Warcraft by a different name. The majority of the setting is outside the game, but roughly 25% of the book is playing it

I don’t think any MMORG-based movie should be entirely within the game, so I think Stephenson’s plot would be great for such a movie.

I enjoyed the first Silent Hill movie, as they did nail the visuals and a few other things. It was more or less a mess story-wise and theme-wise though IMO. They basically just recreated the great designs from the game, which is fine to some degree, but definitely makes it feel a bit derivative. To make matters worse, the designs actually mean something in the games (like that "butcher guy" is a physical manifestation of a character's "inner demons"), but this is pretty much all lost in the film conversion. Not saying it is easy to do something like this justice (especially in a movie format), but it is something that could have been done much better IMO. SH might be better as a mini-series perhaps? It doesn't really work as just a monster movie, but a longer series with a bigger focus on psychological trauma and whatnot could be good.

I only watched the first couple RE movies. They're fun I guess, but pretty ridiculous. I'm not a big RE video game fan, so can't really comment much, but seemed they took the film series in a different direction at some point (basically "watch Milla kill zombies" rather than RE film).

They're working on a Halo live action...something. I forget what it is exactly...TV show I think? Coming to a streaming platform soon I think.

They're making an Uncharted movie. The games are basically Indiana Jones with some tweaks, so that *could* work, though I don't have a lot of optimism based on some things I heard about the movie's production.

HBO is making an adaptation for The Last of Us, and IIRC the Chernobyl show runner is in charge of that one. I'm only aware of a few things about the production (some initial casting), but that could probably work out well.

The Witcher on Netflix is pretty good, though technically it is based on the books and not the games.

I wouldn't be opposed to revisiting Parasite Eve (the first game) as a film/TV show, though that's another one that more or less book-based (I think there are already 1-2 movies?). I'll try to think of other cult classics as most big name video games already seem to have adaptations lined up somewhere (though they might not all get made).

edit: The MGS games would be interesting, but I have no idea how you would tackle that. There are some great highs and some bad lows in that series, so you'd have to be careful about adapting it. Something like MGS1 or MGS3 might be able to be standalone adaptations, but if someone wants to adapt the whole series, good luck. Though I would love to see MGS1 made then followed up with a MGS2 production that is marketed similar to the MGS2 game, and then see a bunch of people very confused when they watch the movie/TV show.

Man you just took me down memory lane with Silent Hill, Parasite Eve, MGS, etc. I think Uncharted should be decent in the way of action/summer movies goes. The first game I finished when I got my PS5 last year was the last Uncharted game in the series and if they just follow that storyline to the T it would be a great movie.

MGS, I think, would be better off as a Netflix series or anime series. The espionage aspect is easy to nail down but then you got Kojima's nutty plot twists to factor in.

To keep in the spirit of the game put 3.5 hours of cutscenes in the movie.

Uncharted should be easy to do well (relatively speaking), I'm just not sure the production company behind it is doing a good job. The games and stories are heavily character-driven I think, so if the actors (and writing) aren't any good in the movie, then it will probably flop. Like I said, it is kinda like Indiana Jones. If you replace Harrison Ford with a ho-hum actor, I don't think those movies would work as well. Neither would Uncharted without a similarly strong performance in the main roles. I think they have Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, which I'm cautiously optimistic about, but they also have Mark Wahlberg as Sully, which seems like a mis-cast to me (also seem like an excuse to put more "star power" in the movie unnecessarily). Maybe it will work out, but they'll definitely need to make sure all these characters have good chemistry, good dialogue, etc.

And yes, MGS would definitely have to be a series of some sort I think. I actually think these long mini-series formats popularized by Netflix and other streaming platforms will lead to better video game adaptations. I don't think most video games with decent stories are easy to adapt to a conventional movie format, and of course they wouldn't really work as a season of 15-20 ~22-minute episodes either (with commercials breaking things up). 6-10 hours of content with a decent production budget can really make for some good results.

Thinking about it, I guess God of War *could* work too (especially if they follow the same "twist" as the games), though it would also be pretty hard to adapt I think. The initial games in particular are pretty light on dialogue and plot development, though I think the main pillars are pretty solid. You could adapt it, but you'd really have to flesh it out....which could go good or bad. But a high budget Greek fantasy production would have a lot going for it if done well I think.

God of War could be great, not enough Greek mythology out there for my liking and nobody seems to get it right.

Both Hercules movies where garbage I liked that 1st Titan movie (Release the Kraken).

    Doom was terrible.

Warcraft was a pretty good adaption. Never played Warcraft or World of Warcraft but I was able to sit through that movie when it came on tv.

Not a movie but Witcher was good as a series.

It would be pretty cool to see a God of War and a Gears of War movie.

Yes to God of War. Sony originals have some really nice plot driven ones: Uncharted, Last of Us, even Horizon Zero Dawn.

As much as I wish they would for both these titles, I'm worried no one could pull them off correctly. I think a screen adaptation could kill either video game franchises (although Super Mario Bros movie didn't hurt the franchise)

Like others mentioned, a silent hill movie/series based on either 1,2 or 3 would be great. same for any of the fromsoft games.

Any of the two nier games makes for a good sci-fi movie
