Why in the world did Dusty pinch hit Toro instead of Yordan? He’s had some EXTREMELY questionable decisions lately.
Starters-good enough but can't seem to go longer than 5 innings on average Linuep-steaming pile of ****, exacerbated by Tucker, MM and Straw unable to get hits (pretty much automatic outs) Bullpen-terrible. Smith and Raley don't belong in MLB. Need Paredes back and in last season form Manager-I like Dusty but he is managing us out of games. Toro over Yordan at PH? The continuation of using Straw at leadoff? Continuing to put Smith in games where we are still in it??? Ugh. I expect the Rockets to suck. I expect the Texans to suck. This was our one potential bright spot....
Here is a silver lining from last night. When you lose on the road you only have to watch 8 innings of Astros' pitching.
Along with the glorious fielding of Myles Straw. Was surprised Dusty called him out in the post-game thinking he would (should) have caught that ball. Certainly wasn't an "easy" play, but typically one an average CF makes (or at least gets close).... would be interesting to see the catch percentage. If plays like that help influence his decision making going forward, so be it.
Perhaps it's been said earlier, but if Straw isn't going to play gold-glove caliber CF to offset his awful approach at the plate, he needs to sit. He certainly shouldn't be leading off under any circumstances. Period.
How about above-average, then? I'd settle for that. It was a tough play last night that got over his head but a play he has to make to warrant being on the field.
Yeah, he has to be average to above average... with the expectation that he will likely not be able to make slightly difficult plays routinely, and its highly unlikely that he will get better at the position at this point. I said previously, I don't care much about his bat... but at this point, I'd bet he's more likely to get an RBI XBH than he is making a slightly difficult play in the OF.
Can anybody think of a good reason why we wouldn’t have someone like Brantley or Bregman leading off instead? I’m sure Dusty has his reasons, but I sure can’t think of what those reasons would be.
That's likely to hold true anyways... and you add the possibility of McCormick getting more AB's throughout the game than more proven hitters in Bregman or Yuli.
Where is this buried on Savant? The only places I can find catch probability are on the leaderboard and on the player's profile which isn't even updated for 2021 yet.
Lack of talent and bad managerial decisions is a bad combination. This Astros team can't afford to slip way behind this season and hope for more postseason miracles. They won't make the playoffs at this rate. But hey, at least we're under the luxury tax!
