What he did with UH was originally sign some checks to promote the new facilities that are also helped paid by other avenues. And the rest he stays tf out of the way. If TF was doing what he did with the Rockets, trying to push decisions and telling Sampson and co. what to do and what not to do, Sampson would have left a long time ago.

With the Rockets, he's the exact opposite. He doesn't spend when it comes time to and he continues to talk and plaster his name when he has the opportunity to do so.

I’m with you. When I found out Tillman was the winning bid thinking we got a local let alone a season ticket holder to take the mantel from the Florida/NYC guy and we’re primed for a title run with generational talent, I was estatic. I’ve read a lot about his business being petty, not paying contractors, or won’t give the tigers some outdoor space in the middle of god damn downtown, but I figured as a fan knowing the championship windows are run he could go down as a hall of fame owner just by spending and investing these next few years and reap the benefits and the legacy for years to come.

Then we saw the dominos falling, from Jeff BZdelik, a few other asssistant coaches, Trevor ariza, mbah, I’m fine with letting em go because this league takes tough decisions, but replacing them with close to nothing and demanding better results with a worse product? You can’t run this thing like a mid range fast food sit down man watering down the margins and quality.... I mean the guy wants to be headline name, had a reality show, wrote the book, takes the mike every time he can interview but now its easier to see through it after the actions don’t really match the speak and it is a damns have. At this point we just hope that the disappointment from houstonians is enough that he can hear them and learn from this because it doesn’t look like he’ll go anywhere so hopefully he learns now that he’s punted a few years and has more time to get his finances in order.

According to the article it was Sampson who had to go appeal and get Tillman’s attention just to be able to get hired. The other major facet along with college sports being much cheaper to buy is that the donations are often tax credits/deductible or even write offs, so you can push it there and be a local education hero while also not really having to foot the bill. Let alone talent to come to u of h cost d-league money. But I agree, if he just stuck to uof h which is the economics he seems to be comftable with, he could still be a local legend. If you’re going to step up to the highest level, deliver.

I wish Gennaro Savastano bought the Rockets instead.

At this point, we’d have been better off with anyone else’s management style. The only owners I wouldn’t have wanted even if they spent for the title are from Saudi or China money, the culture and lack of accountability on how they handle things just won’t fly in Texas. And thats what worries me if he or some people have this mentality that you shouldn’t and can’t be objective about your own management even in the spirit of wanting more or wanting to do better. Tillman does not equal the rockets, neither did Harden, Morey or anyone. We’re fans, we essentially pay and get nothing back but emotional enjoyment(or torment), we stay loyal, and have an emotional allegiance to this team, yet we shouldn’t criticize management who continue or would price us out of the arena when the market allows, that is just too ccp for me.

I’m still at a loss why someone would buy a team that is an accountable good, you can buy a flagship high rise or whatever else and not be accountable and enjoy it or do what he’s doing with UofH tax deducatable investment but also power and you get a lot of credit. But to buy a sports franchise where an entire city has an emotional connection, allegiance which makes it unlike any other business and then to try to cheapen the quality of the product and lie straight to the fan base is baffling. I would’ve highly leveraged myself too to get this team, no issue with him doing it. But if I cut the margins/quality of a contending team, I would expect this city to boo me because unfortunately the nba economics is we’re all at the mercy of an owner being benevolent. Even when they are, like Dolan, willing to spend if they mess up the culture with their BS and ego, the paying and loyal fans have every right to protest or make billboards. This is sports, if you guys can’t handle heat, stay in your yacht.

You forgot signing him would require going over the tax line and Fertita said he will pay tax only if the Rockets made the finals. Not paying tax doesn't make him extraordinarily cheap lots of owners don't pay luxury taxes. This year only 4 teams will pay the luxury tax. I guess that makes Fertita 5/30 in terms of cheapness lmao.

    https://www.spotrac.com/nba/tax/2021/

You realize Rox got a 2nd round pick for the Knicks in a sign and trade for Austin Rivers right? GSW got D Angelo Russell for KD. Teams get assets for a player that was gonna sign with them anyway. It all depends on how good you are at negotiation.

What if Morey got Kawhi Leonard over Marcus Morris? What if he didn't trade a bunch of assets and THREE FIRST ROUND PICKS for an expiring Cp3? Lots of what ifs could have changed Rockets fortunes...

Oh yeah too bad Fertita isn't Mark Cuban. Doesn't mean he is the cheapest owner in the league though.

He just didn't ok signing Ariza to a bloated deal. That's hardly blowing the team up let's be real.

So lucky we able to unload broken down Fatty Harden and his monster contract for something besides strip club gift cards and Lil' Baby NFTs.

If Harden never played another game he will have won more games as a Net already than the Rockets as a team will win this year.

But you keep that hope alive champ.

Guess who is leading that Nets playoffs defense:

Harden leading ENTIRE NBA on defense in postseason:

Harden led Rockets were tops on defense last postseason too but certain posters on CF choose to conveniently ignore that.
