He’s not the versatile scorer Lou is. He’s a pure shooter and that’s where the majority of his points have always came from.
With all that info there of what we had in talent on that squad, who's willing to take a shot at building the hypothetical trades to get the following guys on the roster: Jordan, Drexler, Barkley & Stockton. We already know Sampson would have net Jordan and Drexler ( I would say probably even a little more) but would would it take to get the rest. End Result after '84 Draft is over P.G. - John Stockton / Who gives a $hit S.G. - Michael Jordan / Who gives a $hit S.F. - Clyde Drexler / Who gives a $hit P.F. - Charles Barkley / Who gives a $hit ..C. - Hakeem Olajuwon / Who gives a $hit That's Phi Slamma Jamma Alpha Omega
Here's a really good Grantland article from 2012 on that '80s Rockets team. The title of the article tells it all - "The Greatest Team That Never Was". If you haven't read it then check it out. https://grantland.com/features/an-oral-history-hakeem-olajuwon-ralph-sampson-1980s-houston-rockets/
Really impressed by his performance against Phoenix. Recent Rockets shooters were mostly catch and shoot guys, or guys that needed to create rhythm off the dribble. Brooks looks like he can do it all.. off the dribble, off motion/screens, catch and shoot, and the deep logo range. Degree of difficulty is up there as well. Best pure shooter on the team since Troy Daniels, but it feels like Brooks has more upside with the ball in his hands.
He also hasn't demonstrated the playmaking ability Lou has. It's funny people comparing him to Lou Williams just because he kind of looks like him.
He doesn't. He's actually nothing like Lou. It's funny seeing some of the comparisons when most of this board hasn't even seen him play outside of those few minutes in the Suns game
If he can become a + defender I'd start getting excited. He is sneakily long and rangy for a 6-3 guy. He looks like Jam Murray, but even longer perhaps. Excited to watch his defense.
2 years in the G League so he may never be more than a 3&D guy. I think his shot is pure and with an uptick in usage with the Vipers this year his shooting splits dipped a bit. I think he could be a nice sub off the bench for instant offense. His defense is also not terrible for a younger player. You are right though - when he gets hot look out - its almost a zone with him where he cant miss.
I didnt understand Silas move last night, subbing out Brooks for Bradley, after Bradley made the BONEHEAD play of the night! You got to show him you have confidence and the only way is giving him minutes
