For reference Brooklyn Center where Duante Wright was killed is in the NW of Minneapolis. Sadly I'm seeing credible reports that there is damage even in my neighborhood which SE of downtown Minneapolis and several miles away. Also will state there is a lot of false information and misleading information flying around.
Also to note while yes there has been looting there was also initially a largely peaceful protest at the site of the shooting. LE have also responded to looting with a pretty strong show of force including using rubber rounds and tear gas.
I wish people would calm the **** down and wait for the facts to come out before protesting and making a big deal out of situation they know little about.
A lot of people are on edge right now because of the trial of Derek Chauvin. Also I'm convinced much of the looting is being done by opportunists who don't really care about the issue. I don't see any reason why stores in my neighborhood would've been broken into except that people were looking for an excuse.
Sad to see that posters like @J.R. are stone's throw away from being outright Klan members. Why don't you actually join in debate and discussion rather than hiding behind tweets?
My neighborhood board is blowing up. Several Somail businesses were broken into last night and one of the store owners overheard the people robbing her store that they would be back tonight. Many residents are organizing to do a watch to to help protect these businesses. Unfortunately during the past unrest the Somalis have seen their businesses burned and looted but also targeted by outside agitators looking to go after Muslims.
Yeah the whole thing is tragic. There are a lot of agitators that are just trying to recreate the riots after George Floyd. I really hope people don't start rationalizing this again like they did with the Floyd riots.
Wow you really are going full on. What is your point posting this? All of those people should be arrested but for some reason this makes you gleeful, why?
The judge for the Chauvin trial has said that he expects closing arguments next week. The defense could start presenting as soon as tomorrow. That's going to push things even further on edge. My prediction is this city will be on lockdown as the jury deliberates.
I agree and I've heard here a lot of the same attitudes expressed in that cold open. This city could very well burn if Chauvin is acquitted. That said I disagree with the judge not sequestering the jury now. There is no way the jury isn't going to hear about the riots from the shooting of Daunte Wright and what that might mean if Chauvin is found not guilty. Besides just on principle Chauvin deserves a fair trial that just sets up an appeal from Chauvin's attorney's if he is found guilty and dragging this whole thing out even longer.
I agree. Feel like Chauvin needs to go down for this no matter what. Could save that city. Him losing his life to prison could save multiple lives throughout the country.
