Wood is nothing more than a second chance that has become our first choice. He shouldn’t be because he isn’t going to be able to do anything with his talent more than what we see now. This is his last step not his first step into finding himself. The future is Porter but a lot his actions come across as aloof. We are spoiled because of our relationship to Harden. We watch the growth of a 20 year old kid comparing him to our hero Harden and what is so crazy is the kid produces. Remember that MDA worked Harden on the daily to get him where he is. Harden evolved into the player he is now over season after season adding adjustments to an already superior game. Porter has Lucas and Silas. There are few students at your local high school the same age as Porter. The “attitude” is his age. Being able to make Harden like plays and fill up stat sheets within the flow of the game is mind blowing on any level but he is doing it in the NBA. Having Porter had taken some, I repeat some, of the sting away from losing Harden. I like Porter more than Harden because Porter has more potential than Harden. Will he ever reach said potential? That is what being a Rocket fan is all about. Porter is an underdog type with true best ever upside. Yes Jordan / Kobe / Harden —> Porter is not there now but neither where any of them at this age. Everything happens within the flow of the game; never over the top or showy. Porter game is steady and makes others teammates better.
I honestly think that's a little unfair. Sure, DaDa went nuts over Dan Langhi, Vassillis Spanoulis and D-Mo, but he also had an irrational devotion to Aaron Brooks and Von Wafer.
So then we agree. If we are looking at the next two seasons of developing youngsters and getting our cap right then this won’t be a quick turnaround. I’m not too optimistic on moving Wall or Gordon for positive value at any point of the rest if their deals and I don’t think we will be too interested in giving up assets to move them. So we cut AB and we have somewhere in the 20 million dollar range of cap space. A top 4 pick would take 6-8 million of that space. 12-14 million doesn’t buy you a lot in terms of high impact in the NBA. I don’t think we will bring back any of our FAs, but that would just cut more into our limited space on a team that isn’t very good to begin with. There’s not much money to spend. No reason to spend it while letting youngsters do the heavy lifting AND while our focus is on developing young guys, I can’t see a real draw for high impact free agents to want to come here even if we somehow are able to find a way to make real cap space quickly. A quick turnaround isn’t impossible, but i would wager highly unlikely. Playoffs....not next year. Hopefully the next and that’s as a young frisky up and comer, not a true contender.
“We are getting there - baby steps” First thing I thought of @DaDakota, and I like it!! #KeepTankAlive Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
I like Bassey for the Rockets as well Continue with quote unquote "Baby Steps" (Deadpool "Baby Legs" scene) https://youtu.be/pGrGQ01qwr4
I like role players, and players who move off the ball - am suprised by Olynyk didn't realize he was this well versed in team ball....Wood could learn a thing or two about hard cutting, and player movement as a big from him. There are many players I have loved over the years from Calvin to Scola to Yao and of course Dream - I just like good smart basketball. Von being the exception that proves the rule. DD
Jae’Sean Tate is the smartest b*stard on the Rockets. Amusing to see Kelly Olynyk brought up as the “smart basketball player”. Hmm...
I think the goal is to have neither of them be your number 1 guy. I think that is going to come via draft and move trade/free agency. Ideally (for me) you get a star in the draft then use the money when we comes off the books to get another star.
Despite what few think, DaDakota is a cornerstone of this forum. Wouldn't be the same without him. With that said pray for us older than 40 fans. Life is getting too short for us waiting for another chip.
I don’t think a star will sign with us because look at what happened at the trade deadline with Aaron Gordon. I do think that Wood will be paired with Wall to clean the cap or he will be traded a draft day to get the star we lack. Wood is a stepping stone to the future not part of it, IMO. Porter like Harden needs a constant supporting cast. I think most co-star would over power him. The other leadership needs to come from a different direction than the traditional way. Porter ,IMO, is worth the trouble of finding and/or waiting for the right person to play with him. Oddly enough, Harden would be a good pairing. (I know he is not coming back)
While I appreciate that, I think Clutch, or Bima are currently the reigning MVPs....I am just the court jester. DD
You are almost as bullish on this bottom feeding rebuild squad as you were bearish on the team that contended for years on end. “DaDakota: On the Wrong Side of History Since 1999.” DD
