It served a purpose and showed the behind the scenes stuff with the evil tech company & mechagodzilla. There's no way that we would know how they made him work without those scenes. It could have been any group of kids, though. I think they just had a contract with her for another movie. The whole movie was like that, we could have had good but unknown actors. No one came for the acting, they came for the beatdowns.
