I think there is hope that Hartenstein will be ready to be the primary backup next season. He has range.

 

Did anyone notice this Rocket defensive wrinkle (below)? I didn't. Who knows how many of these types of things are in the gameplan that we don't pick up on. You can bet Inside The NBA isn't noticing that.




ALSO....

MDA did make an adjustment with his substitution pattern with Eric Gordon. MDA had him MIRROR Mitchell's time on the court. Basically not have another episode like game 4 4th quarter where Mitchell went off while EG was on the bench. That change in pattern was really helpful to the Rockets. Mitchell was clamped by Gordon.

I would bet my life Bzdelik was responsible for essentially all of this but can’t complain regardless.

 

One person in this thread gets it. Barkley is right for once. The Rockets will not change their offense because it is designed to beat the Warriors. They are not going to make adjustments vs Utah that will throw off the game plan vs the Warriors.

The game plan is designed by Morey, not D’Antoni. When the other team is better than you are, shoot a lot of threes because it is more efficient. It is also a high variance game plan, so you will both win some games you should lose and lose some games you should win. There is no question the Warriors have more talent than the Rockets, so shoot a lot of threes and roll the dice. Every other team is just a warm up for the Warriors. The game plan will not change.

Also D'Antoni is a good coach for this system because he is all about confidence. Since they are not going to change the game plan anyway, the best fit for a coach is a guy who will do everything he can to instill confidence in the players. Where game planning can make a difference is defensive adjustments and Bzdelik is doing a good job with the defense.

 

^Exactly the slugging match uglyball game against the Jazz that nearly lost last night worked pretty well against the Warriors - see Game 4 and Game 5 of the WCF last year. It almost worked in Game 7 too they jsut...well we know what happened there.

 

We can use more Faried. I think this Houston rockets is stronger than last year

I still can't get the fact Klay Thompson was allowed to slide under Harden's jump shot 7 times or more. Bahumbug.

 

If only we had shot more mid rangers and ran less iso against GSW, things would've been different!!!!
