Didn't get into it until recently (have the dvr set to record the reruns on adult swim every night, then I'll binge 4 or so every few days). **** is hilarious.
Same here, my buddy kept telling me I needed to check it out I kept putting off. Finally watched all three season before season 4, I was hooked. One of my favorite shows on the air currently....
Well now that's something else I will have to add to my watch list. I knew it would be for me but was not in the mindset to start it.
Loved the first 3 seasons, but really didn't care for season 4. The jokes weren't quite as funny, and they really doubled down on the nihilism, gross out gags and dark humor. I love it in doses, but when everything starts to seem perpetually miserable you start to lose me. Hopefully they can rebound.
It's one of those shows that I put on in the background, but you can't put it on in the background because I regularly stop and rewind to hear the whole minute of conversation.
Growing up there was always a rerun of a great comedy either before the news or right after before the late night talk show started -- it was a tradition (Cheers, Seinfeld, Simpsons, Family Guy, etc.). Then it just ended - I think Friends was one of the last ones but I wasn't really a fan and never watched. Rick and Morty has become the first show in decades for me that fills that old tradition -- the only issue is there just aren't a lot episodes so lots of frequent repeats.
And this is why it feels dead to me @Buck Turgidson I love the show, I've watched the whole series over and over, it's just that 41 episodes over 8 years if fcking sucks.
Venture Brothers did 81 episodes over 14 years... 16 years if you count the two years they left fans hanging, waiting for new material before cancellation. edit: Longer than that... Premiered February 16, 2003 Cancelled September 7, 2020
Only 41 Episodes? Hell, I guess I'm pretty much caught up after only watching for a month. I also think modern media and ALWAYS ON DEMAND ENTERTAINMENT has spoiled us.
This is 100% true. This is a show you HAVE to pay near-full attention to, or there's no payoff. I'm not saying it's complex or the humor is subtle, just... for whatever reason... you have to focus on it to appreciate it.
It's why these episodes take forever to make. There's one visual gag, one long running gag and a couple gags dealing with meta or cultural references. Then there are the inside jokes. Sometimes it hits you all at the same time. Doesn't mean it always works but the detail makes it so that you might see something new after watching it again
