    Soooooooo.................
I bought an EV last weekend without ever driving an EV, or even seeing the car in person. Dealer brought it to the house and I signed the papers in my living room. lol.

Just installed the Level 2 charger in the garage.
Let me know if anyone has any questions relating to charging....I have read too much over the last week.

    Few things need to change:

    1. Consumer mindset/habit of charging often in the evening at the house vs. current mindset waiting till 1/4 and stopping at the gas station.
    2. ~Range of about 250-300 miles on a charge
    3. More availability of fast chargers so you can stop by for 10 mins to top off or add enough to get to your destination.
    4. Availability of chargers at workplaces and other public places

    TLDW....This is what consumers want
Price point: ~36,000 - getting there
    Range: ~291 - getting there
    Charging: 0-100% in 30 mins. - I can do 80% in 30 mins at a fast charger.

Your charging setup will depend on how fast your car can charge at (the acceptance rate).

Level 1 = 120v charging. It adds about 1 kW per hour. So for me thats 80+ hours to do a FULL charge.
    Level 2 = 240v outlet. NEMA 14-50 outlet, 50 amp breaker.
This increases the output to 9-10 kW. Full charge from 0 in ~8 hours.

    Cost: 250
    50 amp breaker
    3-4ft of 6 gauge wire
    NEMA 14-50 outlet
    Installation

40 amp charger came with the car...but otherwise, 500-600 for a quality unit.

I bought a Volt back in 2012. I planned on having a pure electric car by now, but for a variety of reasons, I'm sticking with the Volt. Next car will definitely be pure EV though. The gas engine in the Volt is handy at times but largely unnecessary, at least for me. I definitely have no desire to go back to a normal gas engine vehicle.

Adding to this, it looks like some electric providers like Austin Energy offer rebates on home charging stations, too.

We charge our cars after 9 PM (free nights plan with Just Energy).

Why would you want or need chargers everywhere like gas stations? The point is to charge it at home while you sleep because that is the most convenient.

We drove to Pensacola Beach with 3 stops. I charged before leaving Houston at home and at the resort before heading back. I think it was like $15 roundtrip.

This thread made me think...can you imagine being able to read all of these threads about current events, politics, technology, etc 100 years from now? 200 years? Just incredible to think about being able to have that much insight of what people were thinking if you could look back that far and read it in a form like it will be preserved here.

Not everyone has the luxury of having a garage.

Also many homes may not have enough power to charge and run everything in their house. Specifically not all homes have the same size amount of powering brought into their house.

I anticipate being a regular old consumer of automobiles who will transition to an EV when the vast majority of the people do in the next 10 - 20 years.

This is kind of an ignorant post and I don't even own a electric car.
