I understand where you're coming from, but think about @Xenon's post below your own. Without widespread vaccinations, travel will continue to be restricted in wide areas of the world, travel from the United States. Without widespread vaccinations, mutations of the virus will increase, making it more dangerous, more contagious, even to those who are vaccinated. It's really common sense.

Eventually, if a large majority of us participate in stopping the spread of Covid-19, it'll become similar to a simple flu shot, in my opinion. Heck, a shot for Covid will likely be tossed into the annual vaccinations so many of us receive at a local pharmacy in the Fall. A routine for so many of us. I'll add that we love to travel, and traveling outside of this country, which we ordinarily would do at least once a year, is damn near impossible. I hope that changes. Right now, I'm not terribly optimistic that it will.

I believe those types of businesses absolutely should have some sort of system in place, be it a negative test or proof of vaccination.

I agree with you. I think this is well put. Honestly didn't even know this was a thing in right wing circles.

I agree with you guys completely.

My question is just wondering IF a vaccination passport is the best way to do this, and if so, why commercialize it? I don't like that. I think there's a better way.

Also, with people still coming down with covid after their shots, isn't a more reliable, quicker, negative test the better way to go?

I do agree in that it will be something eventually (later on down the line) that will be included in the flu shot.

This is expected behavior and should be no surprise.

For example, each vaccine has an effectiveness rate; Pfizer has a 95% rate. This means that three weeks after your second Pfizer shot, you have a 1 in 20 chance of a symptomatic CV-19 infection. This illness should be no worse than the flu.

If you do get CV-19 after your vaccine, you obviously can pass it on. What may not be so obvious is that you can still get asymptomatic CV-19, not know it, and pass it on.

The bottomline is that even after you CV-19 vaccines you still need to wear a mask to prevent the spread of the disease and that 5% of getting sick yourself.

    ETA:
For those daredevils out there, note that many of the CV-19 "long haulers" only had flu like symptoms and never went to the hospital. That 5% chance of flu like illness should not be taken lightly.

The 40% of the US population who will not get vaccinated are why we can not have nice things.

Everyone here does know what “the mark of the beast” is with evangelicals right? There’s a really big reason why all the vaccine mandate theories are driving the hard right nuts.

I’ll add my experience as a long hauler who had it through the holidays. I got the Pfizer shot 4 days ago and after that shot jolted my immune system I’ve actually seen some of those long hauler symptoms get better oddly enough.

My long hauler symptoms were the burning and nasty taste from my nasal cavity. It’s only been a few days but I’ve noticed a remarkable difference. It’s just my experience though and shouldn’t mean anything without real data behind how long haulers are reacting to the Covid shot.

If the evangelicals really read their bible and respected their own religious beliefs they would mentally be better prepared to deal with conspiracy theories and identify phonies and snake oil salesmen like trump. Instead many of them go through life finding solace acting like sheep, blindly engaging in cult like behavior, smitten by individuals and groups that would do themselves and others much more harm than good.

We do see this fundamentalist fever dream in other religions too though. Notably with fundamentalist Islam. That's not all of Islam as it doesn't describe all of Christianity, but the issue is more an issue of leaders at the top using end times prophecy to drive behaviors of their followers. When you literally think the world is about to end, you'll do just about anything... like write a 2,000 dollar check in the offering plate this week.

I understand why they all jump at the opportunity to believe any and everything is a potential Mark of the Beast. Well I don't "understand" why, but I understand it because I've seen it obsess them. It's an excitement that something very theatrical and grand (see many many movies that made millions like the Left Behind series) is about to happen in a very mundane middle America life.

Exactly my point as to why a passport may not be a good idea. Tests are a much better idea.

I may be vaccinated but maybe I have a member in my household who cannot get vaccinated i.e a cancer patient, transplant organ receiver, immunocompromised.
So I can still get infected and pass it on to them if I am in close contact with an unvaccinated idiot.
With vaccine passports I can go on with my essential business like public transportation, travelling by air or ship or participating in public events, without the fear of mass spreading events.

The vaccine passports shouldn't be left up to the whim of private business but should be implemented by the government with clear rules and regulations.
If you don't want to get vaccinated fine, but then you shoudn't be allowed to go in the metro, train , airplane, ship or go to a concert, sports game, seminar or university.
Vaccination is your choice and is the choice of the rest of society to ban you from public events and public transportation because you pose a danger.

Also healthcare workers in hospitals labs and clinics, and workers in retirement homes and prisons and army camps who refuse to be vaccinated should be fired and removed.

There is an incubation period for CV-19 where you are infected but will have a negative test (and are symptom free).

That's not what 95% vaccine effectiveness means. 95% effectiveness means that there is a 95% reduction in symptomatic Covid19 compared to the control group (no vaccine shots).

So for example, let's say you have 1000 people in the no vaccine control group and 1000 people in the vaccinated group. Then after a certain amount of time, 100 people in the unvaccinated group had exhibited symptomatic covid19 then a 95% effective vaccine means that only 5 people in the vaccinated group exhibited symptomatic covid19.

In the Pfizer trials, there were 21823 participants in the vaccinated group and 21828 in the unvaccinated group. After about 4 months after the first shot, there were 50 severe cases of in the vaccinated group and 275 severe cases in the unvaccinated group. Only 9 cases of the 50 happened after 28 days from the first shot (7 days after 2nd shot).

You can see the data in the Pfizer EUA report https://www.fda.gov/media/144416/download

Criminals lose access to all those things due to their behavior, even those convicted of negligent homicide. I can see a case that willful disregard of cdc guidelines during a pandemic can be seen as criminal behavior.

The West ... end of liberty since 2005?

ps. there are valid arguments, especially on ethic grounds, against vaccine "passport", but this ... nay

WHO | Note concerning the new WHO booklet which includes the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis

WHO | New yellow fever vaccination requirements for travellers

Yellow fever is the only disease specified in the IHR for which countries may require proof of vaccination from travellers as a condition of entry under certain circumstances. Likewise, countries may take certain measures if an arriving traveller is not in possession of such a certificate.

They don't have to be exclusive. We also know some things: 1- vaccination likely is great at stopping spread, 2- test can miss cases

Also remember that test is a snapshot in time, so if you want to just rely on test, you have to test multiple times (and some companies are doing this). The NBA did it daily during the bubble. Vaccination, on the other hand, is one time and done.
