Anybody been there? I am responsible for coming up with a place to go on my honeymoon. We only have one week before we have to return to work, and we prefer not to spend most of our time on a plane. Los Cabos seems pretty nice. Any suggestions or recommendations?

I haven't been to Los Cabos but I've been to Cancun, it's not that expensive and it's really nice. It's really like an American atraction because that place has nothing Mexican, which could be a good thing or not depending on what you like.

Actually money is not that big of an issue. I have never been to any part of Mexico, but isn't Cancun more of a young party town? I dont think it would be exactly honeymoonish.

    Congratulations!
Then you need a great hotel on a beautiful beach, great food, and a fantastic room with a view. Good luck! I'm bookmarking this in case we ever get to go to Los Cabos. (I do that with most of the "travel/vacation" threads)

See if you can get all of the above and a jacuzzi in the room. You will only do this once, you lucky devil!

I don't remember because when I went I was 11 and I went with my parents and my grandmother.:( My dad would tell me that life in Cancun ended at 6pm when the mall closed. It could be a young party town but I couldn't tell you. man I wish I could go to Cancun right now, oh with the exeption that I am engaged, nevermind.

So I get to the town right, and my cars whacked and the lanky crazy eyed priest at the gas station said I had to talk to his boy Gepetto out back so I did and there weren't any chicken wings and sunshine that day. No, just 5 deadly ninja conquistador banditos numbered one though five but luckilly I had the thing the thing that allowed me to beat them all 1 through 5.

Make sure that any time you happen to be driving around in Mexico - no matter where it may be - that you always keep the passenger supplied with alcohol. Exploit the fact that anyone except for the driver is allowed to be drinking in a car. Do it...it's exhilarating to know you're breaking a law when you're not really.

I've been. I play golf so it was wonderful but spending 4 hours out on the links not likely to be the best start for your marriage.

It is an easy flight from Houston and a short car trip down to the hotels on a big four lane highway. The Westin is a stunning piece of architecture with a great little beach. Go all the way down to Cabo and there are lots of beach hotels all with great pools and bars. We went fishing, my nephew went diving but mostly folks just beach out. There is a rockin club scene every night but be warned the locals don't even head out till after 10PM and things don't get going till midnight.

The Palmilla has a great Buffet and local floor show on Friday nights but you have to book it early. Cabo Del Sol is my all time favorite golf course. The 3 finishing holes are easily the equal of Pebble Beach.

Thanks for the recommendations. I was looking at the Westin and Hilton for a few nights. Palmilla looks absolutely beautiful, but a little too pricey. Might stay at Palmilla for just a day or two and the rest maybe at Westin or something else.

I'm really not a golfer (almost tore my rotator cuff just swinging at the stupid ball) or a fisherman. Any tours or shows that you would recommend?

My soon to be wife is now pushing for Bali instead of Los Cabos. Anyone been there? What would you guys recommend between Bali and Los Cabos?

Our first choice was Maldives, but that place has to be the single most expensive place in the world.

I also figured New Zealand with its LOTR tours would be tite, but she says no. :(

Bali is just lounging on a beautiful beach.

Hey, ask Smeg, it is one of Australias top tourist destinations I think.

If the Palmilla is too pricy what you think Bali is going to be. Heck the airfare to Cabo is probably $1000 less than Bali.

The Pacific sounds exotic but for just "being" at a beautiful beach you can't do much better than the Virgin Islands, plus it's still the USA (or a short ferry from it) and there are no Muslim Fundimentalist bombing the tourist hotels.

By the way, you can do the big buffet/dinner show at the Palmilla without staying there; just call for a reservation. We stayed at the Melia San Lucas which was cheaper than the golf resorts and closer to town. Click the activities link to see if it has what you want.

I have a billion miles so airfare is not that big of an issue. The hotels in Bali look alot better then Los Cabos and surprisingly they are a bit cheaper as well. Plus she is into all of that historic art stuff and it seems like Bali would have more of that.

You ever been to Bali? :)

I've been to Bali - I went there for a month about 12 years ago. We did Bali on the cheap so I can't really comment on the hotels you're going to be staying in, but it was really cool from the cultural side. I can't really remember much about how beautiful it was though - we were surfing.

Btw, Bali isn't a Muslim island, unlike most of the rest of Indonesia. That means that you can drink and enjoy yourself in that respect. On the other hand, as was proved by the bombings, the terrorists really aren't that far away.

I just question whether you really want to fly to the other side of the world for a honeymoon. Getting both of you tired out from a long plane trip sounds like asking for trouble. Have you considered somewhere closer but more exotic than Mexico like Belize or Costa Rica?

If it were me, I'd choose Bali, but I love SE Asia...I've never been but have heard great things...Why not do Bora Bora...That is my dream spot...
