I am relatively new to cc.net (2 years), but many of you treat Dream as god himself. What was it like when he was playing (during the championship years)? Were there trade Dream threads?

I think clutchcity wasn't created until after the championship years. In his later years, there were tons of Dream bashing threads -- first to say he was washed up and later to call him a traitor for signing with Toronto.

I remember some Hakeem bashing in the early 90's, when he was almost traded. There were issues between him an management.

I remember arguing with some friends back then over who was better- Hakeem or Pippen. I won that argument.

I don't believe Hakeem had a great reputation before the championship years either. I remember a fair amount of trade rumors and other not-so-great stuff written about Hakeem earlier in his career. Of course, the guy can do no wrong during the campionships years. But immediately afterwards, when we failed to 3-peat, questions arose again.

Let's face it. Us fans are absolutely terrible people. :)

well, you have to take into account that Hakeem's embrace of Islam changed him also. Dream from the late 80s-early,early 90s wasnt the same man. The only time I ever criticized the man was when he reached in for his requisite foul on the point guard. I LOVE YOU DREAM!!!!!!

Many people had given up on Hakeem after the 92/93 seasons after early playoff exits.

I remember my dad almost did, and he is the biggest rockets fan I've ever known..

Luckily for us, we stuck with him.

I think the early 90s trade talk was Dream to Miami for Glen Rice and Kevin Willis. Sure glad that Dream and Charlie Thomas had that now famous face to face on the airplane, and that deal never went down. Funny how both players mentioned later ended up here, anyway, when they were past their prime.

Sometimes the best deals are the ones you don't do, like the Horry for Sean Elliot trade.

yeah there was all those talks for Barkley as well. I am so happy we kept him

On the other note. We didnt loose Horry that year but we lost him the next...we won a championship but what we could have been with Cassell and Horry still here =)

Hakeem Olajuwon was the best player the rockets will ever have.
Akeem years thur mvp years nobody would bash him. everybody bash the rockets other players, coaches and owners but not Hakeem. some years it was so bad with the team that people would hope they did would trade him, so he could win somewhere else just like Moses Malone did with the sixers.

I remember, and I don't intend to look it up, a thread tirled "Hakeem is a whiny b****". this of course after he left Twoston.

that didn't go over too well with the die-hards to say the least

I bashed Hakeem for wanting more money and going to Toronto. His play, or lack of, there proved he didn't deserve the money he wanted out of the Rockets. It sucks he ended his career as a freakin' Raptor.

I live in Austin, so I hear more Spurs Radio talk than Rockets. Back before the Duncan draft, virtually every call began with trade Pop and trade David. Funny how a championsip later all that shut right up. Same will happen here if/when we win. It is just how fans are. What's the phrase, instant gratification is just no fast enough.

Dream's made his fair share of mistakes. But I'll always remember when he called in to the sports radio show while they were interviewing RudyT and apologized. That was classy.

Not retiring as a Rocket, though. Not so classy.
