Remember when I mentioned this possibility? Rockets need to use their cap space next year on young vets.
Small sample size. Look at his career 3pt%. Look at his career FT%. FT% is the best indicator of someone's actual shooting ability. All time great shoot in the 90s. Curry, Durant Top notched shooters shoot in the high 80s. Harden, Kawhi Very good shooters shoot in the low-mid 80s. Kobe, Paul George Average shooters shoot in the low-mid 70s. See half of the Houston Rockets Below average shooters shoot in the mid-low 60s. This is Aaron Gordon's tier. He's here with the likes of Westbrook and Ben Simmons. Bad shooters shoot under 60s. See Ben Wallace, Shaq.
After crunching the numbers the Rockets, so long as they go 10-21 or worse across their remaining 31 games should still maintain a winning percentage that keep the odds in their favor that they keep their first round pick. Considering that AG would likely not join the team until at least the Memphis game on 3/29 that is likely 4 more Ls that the Rockets would have before adding him to the squad meaning they would really need to go 10-17 with AG which I think is probably too tall of a task. So, maybe its not as doom and gloom for the tank as I first thought. I approve.
Jeff Green on offense perhaps. AG is an elite iso defender, 1-5. His perimeter man defense is excellent. You've been completely ignoring me these past 2 seasons havent you? And @treyk3 believes I've swamped CF with too much AG talk.
Flipping Dipo for firsts and routing picks for Gordon makes sense to me. Wall, KPJ, top 4 pick, Gordon, Wood Tate, EG off the bench next year That’s a solid group. Everything depends on getting that top 4 pick though. Need to trade Wall and let KPJ play the Harden role.
Green shot 40% from 3P with Rockets in 5 out offense. Like AG, Green was career 32% from 3P. Green is still shooting over 40% from 3P with Nets. Guess what system Nets play. Yep, 5 out offense.
While I am not the biggest Gordon fan, I will say that he has the foot speed to guard the majority of of guards off switches. He is somewhat rare because he can is very strong, but also quick and explosive. He hasn't developed the ability to create his own shots, but defensively you can play him all over the court. He is 6'9" and 245 lbs with a 7'0" wingspan and a 40 inch vertical.... his athleticism really shows on defense.
look what they were able to do with CP3. In a year Wall’s contract becomes a huge asset; and he’s playing well. So I’m sure they are hoping that we are desperate enough to give away picks to get him off our roster. They get assets on the way in and assets on the way out. Basically OKC is doing what we should be doing. They are all about collecting picks and young assets and are not rushing their rebuild. Using their time and cap space to continue loading up.
Cade, Green, Mobley, Suggs, Kuminga or even players like Barnes, Moody, Bouknight, Johnson ... not seeing huge difference. BPA baby!
Well here's another question: If you're going to give up that much for Gordon, why not just pursue Collins? He's younger, more upside, etc. and I think that's going to be the challenge for the teams pursuing Gordon. They're looking at him as a cheap player, but in some ways, the high demand for Collins drives up his price because as teams get priced out of Collins they'll jump in the Gordon sweepstakes which will result in more competitive bidding.
I think he fits the current pieces well. We are grooming KPJ and hopefully someone like Cade to be our primary ball handlers of the future. Gordon doesn't hinder that like Olidipo or Wall. He doesn't need the ball in his hands to be effective. He can be a good roll threat for guys like KPJ and he is good at plugging any defensive holes. Good fit for the future core. I'd gladly give up Dipo for Gordon.
