Knicks probably be there come Deadline, they are 1 player away from really being there. Look for them to make a trade i suppose come weds day night. or lease submit a offer, using picks. They have Noel and or Toppins to put in the equation, along with Frank contract.

Franks young pg
Noel is better Center than what we have
Toppins could be a future star.
Picks.

All nice assest for Dipo.

That wasn’t really on Morey... that was on Tilman who mandated the contract be moved and Melton was one of the only real assets available to move.

The mandate to move salary is part of why Morey and Harden are gone, we were constantly using assets to move money and by the end there were no more assets to move.

Pistons ownership want to win. They never have had the stomach for a proper rebuild. They know that they are not going to be able to sign a star in free agency, so they think Oladipo is the type of player they can potentially get long term if they trade for him and offer him the max.

So you have a GM getting pressure from above and below (Casey) to win. They have likely convinced themselves that Jerami Grant and Victor Oladipo plus a high lottery pick are enough to compete long term.

As outsiders we can say that is not enough... but look at these boards, there are fans on here that don’t think the Rockets need a rebuild while those on the outside are saying “the Rockets need to start over”.

Detroit is my preferred trading partner for Dipo.

make them drop or lessen the protection on the pick They owe us and they can have Dipo and Mclemore.
Detroit was dumb enough to package a first along with Wood, maybe they think Oladipo’s a good addition, and they’ll lessen the protections for the coming years instead. So instead of top 16 protected for the next few years, maybe Stone can get them to make it top 5 protected this year, and top 3 protected for the foreseeable future. If DET is willing to make it unprotected than you do that deal before they change their minds. That’s a possibility of 2 top 3 picks this year.
Well not exactly dumb, they swapped for our first round pick in 2020 from the Blazers.

You made me laugh! You're right, that's what we need. I wouldn't mind Sekou Doumbouya as a reclamation project plus a high SRP instead of that. Sekou can play off the bench as a 4. Tate is 6'4". I want to see him in Dort's role.

Toppins is starting to play well for them. His chemistry with Quickly is very good. Frank may become available, ironically due to that reason. I doubt if that will happen since Dipo is playing so poorly apart from the rare flash against the Hawks. I like Noel. He too might become lost in the shuffle because of Robinson. One may become available, but not both.

Literally just Knox + Dallas pick will get it done it’s not much at all for the Knicks. Thibs doesn’t play rooks anyway. So that Dallas pick will rot in NYK

I think the Knicks just make too much sense. They have the ability to resign Dipo so it doesn’t have to be a rental. There’s a need at the position. He’s a defense fundamentals type player and the Knicks have a defense fundamental head coach. The guy who drafted him is in the front office. And the Knicks are in the doorstep of the playoffs; everyone wants to see them take that step this year and compete. But most of all, they have the assets to make us the best offer. They have the picks; they don’t even have to give up young talent that could hurt their chances to compete; they’ve got plenty of options. Just makes too much sense.

I think this gets overlooked and should not. Everyone re-read Nook's comment. The ripple effects of THAT are why we are where we are right now.

Josh Jackson + remove restrictions on Pistons FRP.

Pistons actually have a few nice young players on team.

This team doesn’t seem able to evaluate or develop bigs. Clint was the one and only big we hit on last decade. Maybe DMO but not in my opinion

Pick is unprotected in 2022 right?

So if they fell in the top 3 this year, and bad enough to be in the lottery again next year (very possible), the pick has a real shot at being #1.

I agree, I believe this is a mistake. Even a good back up center along with Wood would be useful. Noel is light, but he's skillful and he isn't afraid of contact. Developing bigs requires excellent coaching staff and patience. Houston the team of bigs is now known for microball. It makes me sad to see bigs only shooting jumpers. If I had my way, I would ban the 3 point shot permanently.

Gotcha now. I think most people think w Green or Cade that Minnesota would be a playoff team, but then again it's the Wolves.
