It's completely possible for an adult to live without one, it's damn sure possible for a kid to just have a basic talk/text phone.

Absolutely. Talk to any child development specialist and they will tell you that kids shouldn't have access to a "smart" device until high school. That **** can really wreck the development of a child. Imagine a 10 year old getting hooked on some right wing youtube channel which many of them disguise themselves as video game channels. p*rn is the least parents should be worried about finding their kids getting hooked online with. Social media and youtube is a dark rabbit hole. Doesn't mean parents shouldn't have supervised practice time using technology such as laptops because in this modern age you need to be proficient at typing and using basic software like web browsers and productivity software. It's always comes down to allocating time with your kids.
