Black people are killed by cops at roughly the same rate that they arrested/interact with police. You can possibly argue that black people are arrested or investigated by police more often because of racism but the argument that police like to shoot black people more often because of race doesn't have a lot of statistically evidence. Cops are for the most part equal opportunity killers.

 

A new analysis of 5,494 police-related fatalities between 2013 and 2017 in the US reveals Black people are, on average, 3.23 times more likely to be killed than White people.

 

That's against the overall population, not based on how often they are committing crime or arrested. As I mentioned, since Black people are arrested by police at much higher rates they are killed at roughly the same rate. Again you can argue that black people are incarcerated more often than whites but the case for being killed more often isn't very strong.

Don't get me wrong. I think cops are plenty racist and they pull over tons of black people for no reason. I just don't think they go out of their way to kill black people.

Roughly 10 million people are arrested each year. Roughly 1000 people are killed by police each year. Do you really think its ok for police to gun down people who are surrendering because they committed a heinous crime? Why do I believe you would celebrate if the police did gun Roof down?

I really need to see the raw numbers for this. Is it that of the one that are unarmed, are more more likely to be black or Hispanic or is that even compared to arrest rates, they are 3 times as likely to be shot while unaramed, ie 9 times versus the overall population? If it's the former then it's consistent with arrest and crime rates. If it's the latter then you have a point. I have not seen the data so I will not argue this point with you.
