I wonder how much of this has to do with a low salary cap as compared to next year. I'm seeing a lot of short contracts across the league. Yes these are prove it deals, but perhaps most of these guys only wanted one year contracts.

Don’t know if we will do much at WR. But be on the lookout for Jacoby Brissett or Andy Dalton soon

Right. Next season is a lost cause with or without DW4. Throw out a bunch of prove it deals and maybe you hit on a few while maintaining flexibility. Big spending, even able to, doesn’t make a lot of sense.

That doesn't have to be true, depending on your definition of "lost cause."

Team turnaround quickly all the time in the NFL. The Texans could get themselves back to respectability and be a fringe playoff team next year if they hit on everything, but that's probably not the goal (and probably shouldn't be.)

Turnarounds usually require some type of talent influx or breakout player, not seeing how either happens this upcoming season.

People that know a lot more about football than I do seem to be pleased with Nick's flurry of acquisitions, or at a minimum they don't find it foolish or stupid. Right or wrong, this is the first I've heard anything positive about the management of this franchise in a looooooooong time.

It’s positive because he’s not over valuing guys like Obrien did. So yes, giving guys like Kirksey a prove it deal instead of 3 years and $10 million guaranteed is a normal thing and it’s a breath of fresh air

Also, maybe it’s something or nothing, but Caserio is cutting a lot of guys Easterby brought in on futures contracts at the end of the season. It’s interesting to say the least.

It's mostly because of the money. But to put things in perspective, out of the 10 FA signings

Starters on defense (2): Kamu Grugier-Hill and Maliek Collins (maybe) or Kevin Pierre-Louis (maybe)
    Starters on offense: 0
    Starters on ST: Andre Roberts
Two starters from trades (Shaq Lawson and Marcus Cannon).

3 or 4 of the others might not even make the team.

Just not having the 31st ranked Defense and one somewhere around the 20th wins you the division last year. But there is a reason why that defense was beyond terrible, STDs

If watson stays and that is a big if then we would be good on offense.
If our defense is not historically bad then we should be competitive. The secondary sucked last year and I am not sure if we did anything to improve there. Run defense can improve by scheme and some good tacklers but pass rush will still be a problem too so I am not sure the defense will be anything other than disastrous.

Agreed, but they are doing it one mostly one year deals, so that should set them up well cap wise in the future if they dont hit on these guys.

Yep, they need to hit the secondary had in the draft and from what I've read this is a good draft for the CB position. They also need to draft a developmental pass rusher and actually develop him. This is supposed to be a good yr for this too.

Just know, the Texans with or without Watson are going to be really bad next year.

Yep, the money from the cap isn't there this year. So alot of guys are taking one or two year deals and hoping the cap goes back up to its normal level.

I don't get the signing of those 4 that won't make the team. It's a waste of money when you consider you can get those bodies from the UFA class.
But then there is stuff like this. Blessed be the fruit. Under his eye and bald head.
