Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism... basically all the religions in the world were hijacked by an emperor in order to deflect blame and instill credibility in the emperor. Today's emperors are tech billionaires. Given this religious infiltration is a human pattern, if in theory the technocrats got together and conspired to create a religion that would serve their wealth, what would that religion look/sound like? If you were one of these tech billionaires, what religion would you devise to serve you indirectly? If I were an AI/Robotics emperor that wanted to keep conquering in the modern world, I imagine the religion I would propagate would sound something like: - Money is energy. If you receive it, "god" loves you. If you don't, then you're not believing strong enough, you infidel. - Fame is energy, too. When you get there, tell people why they're not there. - There is no such thing as a victim. - Whatever happens is for the best, but keep wishing for what you might think is best anyway. - You are amazing already, you don't need training or resources or a community (to conflict with next point). - Fear is a disease, even though you can't permanently rid yourself of it (sinner mentality, important). - Try to murder your ego all the time, even though you can't live without it. - Things will be fine eventually, don't push now. - Anything not on my media platform is dark and controversial. - Other people are projections of your mind, they are not real. - This reality is not so important overall. - You don't need to own things. Others will own them and you will share/rent them, and that's what community is about. - Seek to live like people from thousands of years ago, it's better for you (and cheaper for me). - Once you tell people all these rules, you will relieve them of their suffering, and you will earn a higher place in the more important reality. - If anyone sows doubt in your heart about these rules, cut them out. It's usually your family and friends. This is the sacrifice element, it's important cause once you cut your mom out then you're all in. Far more effective than sacrificing a goat or something. - If anyone tells you robots and AI are going to take over all the jobs, they are negative. Cut them out. Good right? Curious to hear some crazy ideas, mine are just re-using old concepts.
@DaDakota don't be ridiculous, there's no such thing as no religion. Christianity is a religion and so is veganism. It's whatever belief system you build all your other choices around - the brain is an organ that doesn't differentiate between what you define as a religion and what you define as a belief system or theology. Even an atheist will have a belief system, and the brain will treat it like one, and all the same methods of manipulating it will work just as well. So I understand you don't like what traditional religions have achieved in the past, but it doesn't really address the problem. In fact, you're in a beautiful trap thinking those things can't work on you just because you don't follow something that is traditionally called a religion. You're still human, same brain, same consciousness, same need for belonging. In truth, would we even know if these things were happening on a global scale for the first time ever? Do the most influential people of our time need to collude to conspire? Most likely, they all know how to independently do what's best for a ruling class, and will only compete with each other within those safe guidelines. What % of people during Constantine or Othman's time knew this was going on at the highest levels? What % of Hindus knew the caste system was manufactured to keep that hierarchy intact? Isn't it ridiculous for each of those generations to have assumed these controls methods are from the past and will not progress to a new unidentifiable form for a long time? Surely, those who like how things are will pay large sums of sponsorship money to propagate the idea that: "where you are is great, you are great, if you don't get what you want now you'll get it later surely". If I'm Mark Zuckerberg or Kin Jong Un this is a really wonderful way to get 20-30% of humans to love their servitude and stop causing me headaches.
A cross between skynet and matrix techarchy. The "algorithm" is infallible. Your autonomous car chose the correct situation veering into the school children instead of killing you in the subsequent collision with a truck and running over the endangered gecko. If it weren't for that damn lizard, you'd be plastered all over the truck. I think that solves a lot of arguments if blame or culpability is offloaded into the clouds above and below us. A rarely mentioned fact is that big tech's algos are still curated by human beings at the highest level. Take their obscenity filters... they paid a bunch of saps to moderate through them and those poor guys went class action and sued Facebook for PTSD. Maybe that's why Parler said f' it and let it all roll. There's also the problem of how many automated machine learning or data gathering executions are inherently biased towards the race of it's engineers. But, hey it's not real estate redlining against black people if skynet does it... P.S. skynet doesn't have to kill us all provided we know it's better than us and we worship them as all knowing and infallible. We'll even let it cull our ranks of heretics, evil doers and apostates as long as the blue pill tastes like filet mignon from time to time
There will be something to replace it... ppl choose alternative gods in their lives. Some choose money today. How does that work out?
The first warlord that "hijacked" Islam was Muhammad himself right? I mean he had a grand ol' time with many wives and conquering lands and benefiting from the spoils of war.
Faith in other humans and empathy. That should be the new religion. "Believe in ourselves and understand others".
Science cannot be a religon because religous doctrine is treated as infallible and science isn't and is contently worked on because we understand it's fallibility.
Fallibility of things such as mathematical models can only be deemed by people who have the tools and skillsets to be skeptical of them. So finding a couple of physicists who have a poltical grifting angle(being appointed as chief science advisor to the Trump admin for example) here or there that is skeptical amongst a mountain of oil and gas funded lawyers, internet skeptics who don't know how to set up a basic dynamic system model of a basic circuit and pseudo intellectuals who think their philosophy degree makes them have the tools to be skeptics of these models is not what I mean by "fallible". I'm reffering to peer reviewed models that check for accuracy by people who understand the math and science along with vigorous testing such as hindcasting. Also at the end of the day, any scientist will tell you that these are merely the best explanation we currently have, not "the final answer" like religous doctrine proclaims their doctrine to be. So when scientists say there is a steady warming of our planet due to our greenhouse emissions, it merely is the best mathematical explaination that we currently have and therefore it would be wise for humans to operate our future based on the current best explanation we have.
Just use the canons for the stuff that replaced it: liberal arts (literature, classics, history, humanities), social sciences (political science, psychology, archaeology) and law school; let the creatives and introverts handle it and call them all doctors.
You're playing on the technical definition of the word religion here. Science was not created or designed as a doctine, but give me $100k and 200 days on a youtube channel and I'll create you an obedient tribalist followship that will activate war against people who don't believe what they believe, even though the enemy doesn't pose an immediate threat. The point of the thread is which theology has been selected to be hijacked. Each iteration of a hijacked religion is more sophisticated than the previous, it would not be out of the realm of possibility to use science as the perfect cloak. In fact, you can see evidence towards that in how funding, research and tenure at universities has been hijacked by exactly these new emperors we're talking about and then what you have is a bunch of scientists who follow the rules of science to evidence incidental hypothesis. Certainly people like Dawkins are part of a cult that other scientific atheists are not part of.
This is a good one, but a small one. The irony of someone telling you an all-knowing god prefers you eat his vegetables rather than his animals just because we can only recognize the pain/emotion in one of them. Kind of silly, but there's a sort of cult around this.
