Not true. Top 3 in assists for 3 years straight in his mid-career. He's a capable passer. Not sure what you guys want our offense to look like, but there's no one else on the team who is capable of making plays for others. Gordon can makes plays for himself. Oladipo can barely even create his own shot at this point, so not sure how we'd expect him to create for others. Without Wall our offense would be Gordon/Oladipo trying to hopelessly bully/finagle their way to a layup or we'd just be passing the ball around the perimeter until we shoot a contested 3. Yes, I wish Wall would increase his pass rate a little more off the dribble and reduce some of the mid-range shots and difficult layups, but I'd be curious how everyone thinks the offense will function without him. Hopefully Wood coming back will open things back up. Didn't seem like there were too many complaints about Wall when Wood was playing.
Plus he's had to play with different lineups nearly every damn game. As for the idea that he never passed to Mason Jones, if I'm the veteran PG trying to win games, my last option would be to pass to the skittish rook with the scared look in his eyes.
In this game. Take Rockets and 4.5 points. Rockets are 4.5 points underdog in this game. I think score may be about Rockets 110 Sac. 106.
Mase and Tate have mentioned Wall as leaders and/or mentor. Mase said that Wall was coaching him to be a pass first guard, set up teammates first instead of always looking for his shot. And focus on defense. And then Mase was waived for not playing to his strengths. So there is that.
That was before he discovered the joy of Iso. Wall only averaging 6 AST this season with Rockets. 3 assists under his career average prior to Rockets.
Exactly, Scoot will pass the ball to Wall so he can catch and shoot (great %) or attack the closeout.
Wall supposedly got hurt in practice last night and is listed as questionable, but I’d like to think these injury reports with players being added and removed are a sign of tanking. Also, with so many back-to-backs including tonight and tomorrow, will be interesting to see if Oladipo/Wall play both. Wall played both games of back-to-back last time as a result of not playing any mins in first game
Wall is trying to hard to fill in the harden role to be the best scorer on the team. That’s not his game. He needs to look to get Wood and everyone else involved
Wall is a very good player, but would rather take the shot himself rather than pass to the younger players on the team. Way back when, Isiah Thomas refused to pass to MJ in the all star game because he was a rookie. Wall has that same attitude and tends to look off of the younger players. 6 assists a game for all the minutes he’s playing sucks. Seems he would be a better fit on a veteran team. Happy to have him based on the other options we have, but on this squad he has become more of a shoot first pass second type of player.
I heard Wall is retiring to start an alt-weekly of urban life in print format He's calling it the "Wall Street Journal" @tinman
True, he has fallen off but has shown a lot recovering his game physically. I’d speculate he’d be at 7-8 apg if Wood was healthy and Tucker and House could hit a damn shot Hopefully Wall can have a good 2nd half and be moved in the off-season or before the break next year. He could have a late career Derrick Rose like resurgence and play as a 6th man for another 4-5 years if health permits. 20-25 mpg just driving to the hoop and dishing, his 3 has also improved enough to be effective off the ball. But yeah, he’s the leader on a really bad team so I suppose he’s going to take some flak this year, deserved or not.
