Media companies try to stay relevant with millennials and gen Z'ers understanding that millennials and gen Z'ers are far more aware of corporate exploration and wealth inequality so they hand wave "woke" actions like doing these type of stunts no one really asks for thinking it will garner sympathy and admiration for these media companies that these generations generally despise.

That is what all of this is from Mr. Potato Head to Drm Seuss. It's companies trying to pander not understanding why current younger generations hard them. It ain't because Mr. Potato Head doesn't have a gender neutral version of it.

While media companies are doing this, the right wing and conservatives latch on to this as fodder to attack these younger generations and liberals in general because they realize they have no sincere positions on public policy besides "owning" their ideological rivals

all this outrage about what’s happening to some cartoon characters has gotta be fake

    It’s not fake
It’s called these writers have to write articles that provoke people
There are lots of issues going on in the world but to make his article stand out , he’s got to do something different
Cancel culture is on a wave now, so find something to cancel is the new journalism

Honestly who cares if it’s cancelled or not. No one watches Loony Tunes currently and the ones who did are probably 40 yo+ and just don’t care.

Looking back all those cartoons then were pretty trash. Bunch of anthropomorphic animals beating the hell out of each other. There’s no redeeming quality to get upset about losing here. On the other side what exactly is being cancelled? Looney Tunes still shown on Cartoon Network at 3am or something? Kids don’t watch cable/dish and they barely watch streaming services once they discover YouTube.

So many things in the US that need fixing, and this is the issue people get upset about? You're being played by the media for click/hits and the politicians who want you to focus on stupid crap like this instead of real issues.

Kids these days arent watching Looney Tunes anyway - its Paw Patrol and Cocomellon.

"Pepe [Le Pew] was set to appear in a black-and-white Casablanca-like Rick’s Cafe sequence. Pepe, playing a bartender, starts hitting on a woman at the bar..."
    by noreply@blogger.com (Ann Althouse)

"He begins kissing her arm, which she pulls back, then slamming Pepe into the chair next to hers. She then pours her drink on Pepe, and slaps him hard, sending him spinning in a stool, which is then stopped by LeBron James’ hand. James and Bugs Bunny are looking for Lola, and Pepe knows her whereabouts. Pepe then tells the guys that Penelope cat has filed a restraining order against him. James makes a remark in the script that Pepe can’t grab other Tunes without their consent...."

From "Pepe Le Pew Won’t Be Appearing In Warner Bros’ ‘Space Jam’ Sequel" (Deadline Hollywood).

The actress, Greice Santo, is unhappy to have her big scene cut: "Even though Pepe is a cartoon character, if anyone was going to slap a sexual harasser like him, Greice wished it would be her. Now... she doesn’t have that power to influence the world through younger generations who’ll be watching Space Jam 2, to let younger girls and younger boys know that Pepe’s behavior is unacceptable."

If I remember the old cartoons correctly, the other cartoon characters always let Pepe know his behavior was unacceptable... though I think that was mainly because they were cats and he was a skunk. I

don't know if that read as racism — Was the problem that he was a different species? — or were we to think their objection was simply that he smelled bad — which really was, I think, an insult intentionally directed at the French.

As for this new movie, maybe instruction about sexual harassment didn't fit the mood of whatever the story was or maybe LeBron James doesn't have the acting chops to pull off a sincere warning against sexual misdeeds.

From the Wikipedia article on Pepe Le Pew, under the subheading "Reputation":
If you're interested in reading that Amber E. George essay, it's in "The Intersectionality of Critical Animal, Disability, and Environmental Studies: Toward Eco-ability, Justice, and Liberation." That will cost you $73 even just to download it in Kindle!

As for Charles Blow, the Le Pew bit is just a line in his column about the Dr. Seuss problem: "Six Seuss Books Bore a Bias/Racism must be exorcised from culture, including, or maybe especially, from children’s culture."

    Exorcised
?! I think the word he was looking for the word "excised." Or are we possessed by an evil spirit that can be driven out by performing some ritual? If you're talking about editing things out of the culture — which is what is really going on — the word is"excised."

the outrage just seems forced and fake...it’s a bunch of grown people crying about cartoons they don’t even watch, and it’s something that kids won’t care about

Is a little kid really gonna be upset because they removed Elmer Fudd’s gun and replaced it with a scythe? Hell no

all that outrage over Elmer Fudd, yet the new Looney Tunes on HBO ended up with a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and has a 93% on Google

So what was the big deal?

I think people are misinterpreting what is at stake as "outrage." The concern here is over the ongoing and continued erosion of freedom of expression, freedom of belief, and freedom of conscience.

I would be interested if you think it is unconscionable to have canceled this classic Robert Clampett Merrier Melodies cartoon:

Should we be showing this to children?

How? So you think Dr. Seuss should be a public entity? Is that how we protect your notion of "freedom of speech"? By socializing the market? K.

it's also people running out of content to write

kinda of like the off season when people start saying who in the past could play in today's game.
the answer would be all of them.
