I want a top 4 pick as much as anyone but if Porter and Wood start leading us to victories that bodes well for our rebuild. As Drock points out, we have the assets to move up if we really believe it’s worth it.
If the Rockets were playing .500 ball since Wood's injury, I would not be on board with tanking, but to lose 13 in a row, it's a no brainer. Add that the more losses, maximizes the probability to wind up with a top 4 pick. Even the "model" franchise Golden State Warriors knew to shut down Curry last year to maximize their chances in the lottery. The Rockets are going nowhere this season, so they might as well get something out of this awful season. Trade all the Vets. Silas do some voodoo with bad lineups at opportune times, and we could be in good shape next year. KPJ Wood Tate Top 4 pick A lot of cap space
There are basically not many good reasons NOT to tank. It is no brainer that we should tank for better lottery pick.
How does calling Kpj and Martin Jr. from D-league change from Tanking to winning?! This sentence in itself is very puzzling. Would make more sense if the Rockets made a move to acquire a star but calling players from D-league is not changing the tank mode. More than anything it seems they are preparing to trade players like Gordon, Tucker, Dipo, or even Wall.
The main one being we have at best a 52% chance of getting a top 4 pick, so it’s actually a hard question of how much do you allow willfully losing to effect player development. Do you consider it a risk to negatively impact our future with the Porter/Wood nucleus by setting them up for failure over the next 38 games?
