Obstruction is an optics play... can't let Dems pass anything that looks effective or beneficial... campaign against do nothing Democrats. Just like Covid, the GOP will burn down the house in an effort to control Congress for... who? Corporations and the 1%?
Yes you did. You seemed to attack him because of his opinions of progressives and claimed he was not even a moderate.
So what do you call demonizing anybody that has made a lot money as evil which is what was done by progressives during the democratic primary. Just look at what was done to Mayor Pete. I am far from a conservative and I definitely see it as class warfare.
From CNN: Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan had to leave Friday to return home to Alaska for a family funeral, leaving Republicans with just 49 no votes.
I have started to think we can't underestimate the effect that rhetoric has on the speaker of that rhetoric. If you campaign on and speak to the idea of democrats as misguided evil-doers -- even if you initially knew that was just a helpful political ploy -- I think people really start to believe it. So they assume at some point that anything democrats put forward must have huge flaws in it. It's like, I used to joke about liking Madonna's music, long ago, and then I found I actually did start to like it. Then I found myself playing it in the lab, even when other people weren't around.
They want this to be Obamacare 2.0 and campaign on that to get back the House and Senate. It really tells me how desperate they are.
Eventually you have to admit that "Into the Groove" is insanely catchy (and was never even released as a single, go figure).
The min wage and some of the other Manichinations are super annoying, but shouldn't lose sight that this plus original CARES is probably the biggest Antipoverty program in 50 years. Brought to you by the Democrats in spite of monolithic Republican opposition and cruelty and the World's Most Structurally Defective Deliberative Body. Thank you Georgia voters.
That’s fair. I think there’s politics involved, progressive vs moderate Dems. But I also think Bernie is more attacking/demonizing the system.
I have no issue attacking the system I have been railing about income inequality since 2010, I firmly believe that we need some way for workers to benefit from these corporations record profits. I like the tax breaks incentives tied to wages, what I don't like is the rhetoric that all the wealthy can be painted with the same broad brush and that every politician is in the pocket of corporation if they don't agree with me.
Its really becoming clear that republicans are currently flailing and don't have a coherent plan. The current plan seems to be feigning outrage at everything and being obstructionist. i really don't see how this works long range especially against Biden but I guess we will see.
That's not flailing and it continues to work. Just paint democrats as evil, out-of-touch socialists, point (now) to the deficit (that you helped create), and keep finding wedge issues. They'll be just fine, and based on the results of the 2020 congressional elections and ongoing gerrymandering, I don't think their time of reckoning will arrive anytime soon. I say all that with sadness. It's going to take a hell of a lot of work for 2022 to maintain sane people in power.
In the Dem Presidential Primary, there was a discussion about whether billionaires morally have a right to exist. That seems like the definition of class warfare. Populism is, by definition, class warfare. Anytime the goal is to demonize an class of people (generally a minority so you can rally a majority around them) as the cause of all our problems - even if it's accurate - that is class warfare. It's true whether we're attacking bankers, billionaires, welfare queens, or immigrants.
You never complete the sentence of framing when he asked about the morality of billionares. He asked "should billionares exist when we have millions without basic healthcare coverage and shelter". Let's face it, modern wealth accumulation is extremely easy for those that have some capital. Throw some money at some hedge funds and see your wealth grow. No sincere labor involved. It shouldn't be this easy when millions don't have basic life requiring necessities. If billionares still exist after the basic necessities are met for every American, then so be it.
