KG's problem is his lack or unwillingness to go into the post and get physical when it counts. He takes too many jumpers. He needs to get to the FT line. That is the one thing that makes me want to take Duncan over KG. Duncan will get in the post and get dirty. Offensively KG has to make his post up game more dangerous. He has the skill. He just has to to do. With that said, that is my only complain on KG, who I think is an absolute tremendous player!
And you obviously didn't watch any of the games. The Nugs gave the Wolves fits. With Minnesota and Denver's comparative talent levels, MN should have walked over us. Only one game did MN not have the game in doubt with 2 min left. The Nugs pounded MN down low. They penetrated and kicked out. Obviously, this is what Sac has to do to win. Kings in 5. They're up 1-0 already. Who's to say they won't win it in 5?
Kings in 5 against Minny. Unless KG somehow becomes a selfish player, Minny won't get past 2rd round in the POs. Spurs in 6 against Kings. BTW, the western conference POs are clashes of titans, while the East is like a group of women fighting meanlessly about nothing.
Bibby didn't do too badly himself, and wasn't the "main" guy defending Sam anyways. I'll take 30-something points and a W over 40 and a L if that's what you consider 'torching'.
Geez, if this was the Wolves board, looking at KG's line for the night, there would probably 20 "Garnett will never win" threads popping up here right about now.
i pretty much agree with you. i mean, i love kg and i'm rooting for the pups vs. sac but i would also take duncan over him. the problem is that as great a player as he is, he's still a tweener. he's a little light to be banging with the big boys, i think he's 40-50 lbs. lighter than duncan.
This was more in response to slim citrus' comment Bibby couldn't do anything against Cassell, but "Sam I Am" didn't do too great against Bibby, either. both teams apparently put their PG's on their less offensive minded SG's for defense. Cassell on christie who is not known for his offense and bibby on sprewell, who in my opinion needs to step up in this series. I don't watch many wolves games but man sprewell always seems lost or non-existent in the offense. He was very tentative last night and looked to lose his confidence in the game. Hopefully he'll be able to step up.
I never said that Cassell didn't torch Bibby; in fact, I seem to remember saying that Bibby couldn't do anything against Cassell. When I said that Cassell didn't do anything against Bibby, I was speaking in defensive terms. He didn't. And, forty points doesn't seem quite as impressive when your counterpart goes for thirty-three.
it wasn't quite duke-maryland, but that was about the quickest i've seen a 10 point lead go away late in a playoff game in a while. up 10 then up 1 in about 90 seconds. can't believe the kings of all people couldn't score. doug christie was awesome under pressure as usual. i really like both of these teams so i don't know who to root for. the kings deserve a title at some point. they had one stolen from them by the refs and then had a very solid chance at one last year until webber went down. they don't have too many chances left. on the wolves, garnett has been hammered with the can't win in the playoffs tag for so long on top of the fact i like him, and then they've got cassell which is obviously a huge plus. basically, i want whichever one has the best shot to knock off the spurs to win. i think sacramento at their best (which would mean webber getting much more agile like in the past) definitely stands a better chance against the spurs but since i don't know if they'll get to that point i might want kg there to neutralize duncan.
I agree. Besides the Lakers (and I don't care if they rot), the Kings has the smallest window to win a title. Both the Wovles and the Spurs will still be contending next year if they don't win this year. Not sure about the Kings. Divac is getting older each year. Webber might bolt. Besides, I want to see a team like the Kings to win at least once to debunk the conventional wisdom that you can't win it all without one of the top 3 players. I want to see a bunch of very good and smart but not top players can win a title together.
huh! i turned it off when the wolves were up big. looks like bibby came through again. although i still think minny can pull it out. KG is really good. i just wanted to say that, even though everyone already knows.
For those who havent been watching The Wolves were up by 13 pts 100-87 with 3:45 to go in the game. The Kings outscored them 17-4 to go to OT. Pretty freaking amazing. Here is the play by play from every game on ESPN's website: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/gamelog?gameId=240510023
