First off I have to say I’m a guy with a soft spot for romantic shows ...I know it’s not the macho man thing to admit but my oldest daughter who loves anime tells me to look into anime for some cool shows in this genre and check her Crunchyroll app but to stay away from the weird stuff....So I am having some downtime till I get busy this summer and I notice a great anime more out of boredom (maid sama) ...the story telling, and set up was fantastic and I appreciated the unique artwork of the shows, I was hooked and engrossed ... series like “rascal does not dream of bunny girl” had me literally almost tearing up in some spots with the great story emotion or a series such as “Bakemonogatari” had me in awe of the visuals I know I’m a late bloomer to anime, but I started to appreciate a good series and yes you have to look because there are plenty of bland or dumb series out there, but when you find a gem it’s worth it...and yea there are some weird yet interesting series too such as high school DxD, domestic girlfriend, or yosuga no sora ...but more than the cross the line perversion types, I really enjoy the storylines and finding a great anime is not easy but definitely worthwhile and the best series make a connection and not just a silly cartoon. My favorite anime’s such as the ones I cited in the first paragraph has to have great art, a great story, and characters that you can get behind or have some arc that is interesting...plenty out there. Let me know what yours might be
you really only had 3 choices as kid in latin america you either watched dragon ball/z, saint seiya, or that one soccer anime (super campeones) the whole greek mythology angle in saint seiya got me hooked and really sparked my interest in history from an early age. a bit of a shame that anime never really caught on in the states. its pretty cool to see how accepted anime is nowadays. i remember the only acceptable anime after like the 5th grade was dragon ball z. anything other than dbz and you were getting your ass kicked.
Have checked out Miyazaki / Studio Gibli's films? Side rant: Lot of the Anime nowadays have 3D cell shading maybe to help on production costs. But some are still hand drawn which I appreciate. (The Animators low pay aside); I wished the u.s. still kept some of the 2d art houses around. The appetite from the audience is still there.
Movie: Ninja Scroll: amazing balls-out ninja action Series: Hajime no Ippo; The best sports anime ever, created by a boxing trainer. Super technical yet very charming and fun to watch
Im not really into the slice of life anime. OP, I think you might really like Violet Evergarden. Great art and super squishy. It's on Netflix.
I agree Anime is widely accepted now, but back in the day I remember boys everybody being really into Sailor Moon/Pokemon etc. Pretty much anything on Toonami people were f*cking with it.
Violet Evergarden. Fate UBW/Zero are great action animes. Koe No Katachi. Kimi No Na Wa -- non comedy Freaky Friday basically. ERASED -- mystery thriller ish. I'm gonna lie I like the trash as well to an extent. Shows like Eromanga Sensei though..... And that's not even the worst I've seen lmao.
I am recently fully caught up on Boruto and Attack on Titan I want to see more My Hero Academia Rocket River
One punch man. 1st season only. I find it difficult to believe that most people wouldn’t enjoy if they gave it a chance.
I have only seen the movies that where on Netflix, But I want to watch the series, which one is the best the older one or the newer one? The movie had a real WTF ending, it was probably the most jarring thing I have seen in anime and I loved it. My favorites of all time are GITS and Cowboy Bebop, they are the only ones that really got me invested in the plot and the characters, especially Bebop.
