I am leaning towards liking the deal, because it is so hard to ever get such a high pick in the first place while getting the College player of the Year that has fallen in a HS loaded draft which is out of the ordinary. Due to the combination of Gasol making his demands to go top 6 and Vancounver finally breaking up by letting SAR go. Battier has falling further than expected, this is what makes me think this may be a good deal for Battier at #6 for the Rockets 3 picks. Plus we would not have to wait for Battier to develop as much to make the Rockets even better now. When I sit back and think, well if the Rockets DON'T do this, and pick Radmanovic at #13, trade the #18 to Detroit for there obligations while getting 2 futrue picks again and pick Morris at #23, Battier sound really good to me. What do all of you think of this deal? ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. Hakeem.. No, especially if Joe Johnson is on the board at number 13. I think that Johnson will be a better pro than Shane Battier and with the additional picks, the Rockets could add a big man like Woods or Haywood. ------------------
Also, what if the Rockets trade with Detroit. Get there the #9 pick to get White for the Rockets #18 and #23 plus a KT. To get White at #9 and Joe Johnson at #13 (if he is that good)? ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. Hakeem..
Yes,I think either one is worthy of all three. While White's upside might be higher,Battier looks like a well rounded NBA player right now...trade them all and grab one.I'd take Shane. ------------------ Everybody has a little bit of Watergate in em - Billy Graham
For my money, I say take the trade. It's fairly certain that Battier and White will be on the board at that point, either of which would be nice additions to the team. I like Battier (in that Bucky Richardson kind of way), but think I would prefer to see us take White. And who knows who else might still be up for grabs at that point. I think it would be a mistake to actually use three 1st round picks. We need available money under the cap after the draft is over in order to go after free agents and resign our own. Edited to add: carlit0: Why would Detroit make that deal? Has there been some discussion of this or it is simply speculation? ------------------ "What did you mean when you opened your mouth and let all our secrets out?" If you do that (trade all for one) then you miss the chance at getting a decent center prospect. This draft is the deepest big man draft in years. I say keep two, unless we can get Griffen, Chandler, Curry or Brown. ------------------
I'm tired of center prospects...I want an actual center. If we can't have Hakeem (and it doesn't look like we will), I say we wait until we can get someone with a proven track record. ------------------ "What did you mean when you opened your mouth and let all our secrets out?"
Rox Dreams Just speculation... Detroit is desperate for some help. ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. Hakeem..
The center position is not that important. If we get a solid SF or PF and possible a 2nd rounder for Morris, then we can deal with the center position during free agency. Woods, Haywood and Hunter probably dont have the upsize that Marc Jackson has already become. With Shandon gone we will have so much cap room we can offer Marc Jackson enough money to leave GS and lure another FA. This only leaves the PF position in question for the Rockets, and some depth at all positions. ------------------
YES !!! Battier is the only sure thing in the draft, the rest are all risks. I think I would do the deal. DaDakota ------------------ If you like RTS games, check out this one. www.frontierwars.com coming soon to a PC near you.
